Message: Has anyone tried Edelbrock headers? How did they perform? I just ordered a set for my 87 Dak because they are the only company that still makes a model for my old dak.
Thanks

Message: I have an '89 and I installed Mopar headers. I shoulda got the Edelbrocks! The Mopar ones (which were made by JBA) did not have emissions connections and required extensive modifications upon install.
I know that Edelbrock headers are good, and are only about $185 from Summit Racing.

Message: Donald, I had one of the first Dakota's ever made. It was produced in 09/86. That truck was a jewel. Very few problems, just sold it last December. I purchased the Edelbrock headers for it in 88. They fit very well. I tighten the bolts a few times after installation, and they are still on the truck today with the original gaskets. They improved the performance too. The V6 in those days was rated at 117 HP. Pretty bad by todays standards, but mine ran good with the headers. Got an RT now and all I can say is WOW!

Message: Hi there Donald, I just asked on this site about those very headers. I have a 1990 3.9L V6. As everyone has said, the power is not quite up to par. How did your headers get on. You install them or a shop. If you did please give a sight into what's involved. I would like to get them also but do not want to pay someone to do it if I can do it myself. How did it effect your Horsepower? I am very interested in this. Thanx Joe E.

Message: Hi Joe.
I had a shop install my headers. I tried, but one of the bolts were rusted on too tightly and I didn't have the tools. It is self installable if you have all the tools.
Yeah, it did help performance. But i've also put on an Electric Fan and Jacobs ignition system, new plugs, and wires. Now, my old Dak is fast as the new ones. I don't know why dodge put such a horrid engine in a truck. Before i added everything, 4 Cyl Chevy's were passing me like i wasn't even moving, but now i'm the one passing others going up hills. Adding just the headers should give you 5 - 17 more HPower depending on who you ask. Good Luck!
If you have anymore specific questions, let me know, i'll try to answer the best i can.

Message: William Kalvinek _wildflowers@msn.com
I am buliding a Pontiac 400 and am going to use a set of the Edelbroc heads. I named my car
the "Wimpy William S. Kalvinek
Patty Trans-Am". Unfortunately I drove my Trans-Am into a lake in Springfield,Mass and are still
trying to get it out. I have
been trying to get the engine built but I am getting very frusterated with it. I have a mental
illness and get angry easily. I would
like to now if I should ues a single or duel pattern camshaft? Maybe you could help me with a
nother question? I have a set of
E.S.P connecting rods for full floti ng piston pins. I would like to know if it is possable to have a
set of pistons machined for
locks. The pistons are TRW,forged. I am going to use light whight piston pins witch are shorter
then the stock TRW pins.
Thanks W.K.

I tried to get a part# from edelbrock tech guy, and he said "no TES# for 1999 Dak 4x4 5.2 club cab, only shorty's". Anyone know if or why I can't use 6664-1 ('97-'98 dak on edelbrock website)?
thanks, Jim in Allegan Michigan

Message: Jim,
I would think it's the "4X4" thing. All that transfer case hardware is a lot tougher to plumb around. However, the shorty headers should be a great application for you! I have read several places that the differance between shorty and full length headers is pretty much insignificant, like 1-3 HP and 2-3 ftlbs torque at the most.Compared to what you will gain WITH the shorties in place of the stock manifolds, you can't lose!
I have the shorties on my '97 SLT 5 speed 2WD and they made a tremendous improvement!Go with the shorties! They are easier to install also.
I hope this helps.

They came off of a Durango 4x4 5.9L. The guy said the install wasn't too bad. A little tighter for the Y pipe.
