Wow i havent had this much fun racing in a while. I was on the freeway going abut 65 to 70mph. I was going along in the right had lane when this little honda civic, lowered and probly modified, pased me by and cut off a guy in front of me. Well i am the type of person that will race anyone anytime. So i drop it into 4th gear and pull up to him in no time. I am doing about 90 mph and i am right beside him. I just cruise right next to him for a while then i punch it and dust him and i hit about 100. He is about 4 car-lenths back. So i am way ahead of him and i put it into 5th gear and im slow to about 80mph. I see him pull out and start puling on me and then i drop it into 4th again and i dust him again but this time we keep going. I am about a car lent infront of him and we are weaving in and out of traffic doing about 100mph and i was still pulling on him. Then we pull up to the next group of cars and he gets stuck behind a slow car and i just say goodbye!. This was a long race and it was extremely fun. I almost missed my exit because i wanted to keep racing. I have a 97 dodge dakota v6, red, lowered 3 in the fron and i got air shocks in the rear. Custom rollpan. No mods to the engine yet. My exhaust and intake are on the way.

You sound like one of those people who doesn't think before they do something. First, a Honda Civic, even bone stock will pull you top end no problem. My wife has a 1.6L and it will fly from 60 on up to 120+. Second, if you pull up beside someone and then take off, that's not a race. You got a head start and he probably didn't even notice until you were ahead of him. Third he probably just sped up enough to follow you, not pass you, because I guarantee you he could pass you with ease. Fourth, you asume it's modded because it looks modded and it makes you feel better that your 3.9 took on a 1.8 (or smaller) 4 cylinder. He probably thinks the same thing! "Yeah I followed this freakin red lowered truck. It was probably modded. He sucked though because his engine was screaming and I was barely given it any throttle!" Go to the race track, and go when the light is green and I will almost guarantee you that whatever is next to you will smoke your butt! (Oh, by the way I have a 2000 V6 RC and I realize that it's not a hotrod yet!) And if your going to do over 100 mph, please don't do it around traffic. If your going to lose control of your "Super Hot Street Rod", I would rather you don't take out some poor family of 5 on their way to vacation!

I am all for raceing, on or off a track. However if you are endangering others (not raceing) then you are wrong. I am not sure what you mean by "probably modified"? Don't get me wrong this isn't meant to be a slam, just pick your battles. And remember there are others on the road, be safe and enjoy the dak.

While we are on the subject of beating less powerful, foreighn cars, Sunday, I got into it with one of those ugly Toyota Previa mini-vans. I dont know if it had a 4 or 6 but here is what happened, we pull up next to each other at this light on a street with 2 lanes going each way and a "suicide lane" in the middle. I had 2 other guys in my 93 4x4 dakota reg cab/long bed with 5.2 and auto trany. As my freind sitting in the middle leansd over to the passenger side to spit out some dip he had in his lip, the 18 or 19 year old girl(not too bad looking either) gets this devilish grin on her face as she sees us. The road in front of us is as wide open as far as the eye can see, but we take off normaly. I am a fast driver anyway so I am up to 45 or 50 in not too long and I notice this chick is keeping right up with me, staying beside me and I thought it was a little weird since I didnt think it was a race and she or I acted like it was a race. So we are hust going down the road like normal and all of a sudden I hear her mini van start screaming all of a sudden kind of like she just stomped on it with all her might. As soon as I hear that, I punch my gas but try not to keep it on the floor too long. Quickly I catch up to her and we are paralel once more before I start to pull ahead of her and look down to see my speedo just pass 95mph and when I look up, I see a car pull into my lane about 1/2 mile ahead and I look down once more as I break to see the needle just drop below 100. At the next light me and my freinds are busting up that she tried my in her folks' mini van and she has this huge smile on her face. I should of felt good, but I was kicking my self.......I forgot to get her number, its not everyday a good looking chick starts a race with you!!!

"probly modified" translates to "he had one of those coffee can thingies under the back bumper". Anyway, ElMo, most of us like to race but don't be dumb. You don't know how to handle your truck as well as you think and that is evident to everyone by the way you said it. If you are good enough to race safely in traffic, expect some racing team to come knocking at your door. Otherwise you should pick your races more wisely.

There you go again, Elmo, assuming things. Because you don't like what I have to say, I'm a fag. Because the Civic had a 8 foot high wing and a muffler, it was "probably modded"! And you assume you are in control driving through traffic at high speeds in a pickup truck. You are a very sad person with a complex. The Ferrari driver was drunk so, you had him beat there but with your judgement you would probably not think twice about throwing down a couple before you set out to plow down innocent people.

I like that comment made by kyle M about saving american jobs by buying american. I understand why some older people are buying hondas and crap but why are the youths buying this crap.

As for the racing in traffic. Some drivers on the road are more dangerous then people racing like the people on cell phones or people combing there hear or adjusting there seatbelts. Its a fact that your never in control of anything. But its also a fact that when speeding or racing reflexes and thinking is advanced. I know when im racing on or of the track I feel safer then when im just going with the flow.

Even though i wouldn't go weaving through traffic just to beat a civic with a wing on it. I guess im just saying that road racing is just part of our culture. But I would rather drive on the road with people who race from time to time then with people that sit a inch from the wheel and are scared of everything. THOSE are the dangerous ones.

That ferrari crash was bad it makes you think. If im going to go 120 might as well go o 175 or what ever because were dead if anything happens anyway.

KYLE M., Most "imports" are not imported anymore. GM, Dodge and Ford are sending our Jobs out of this country. The Japanesse and Germans are building more and more plants in the USA every day. They use the same suppliers as the GM, Ford and Chrysler. Toyota and Gm have some plants that they share here in the USA. The only Japanesse company that is not partialy owned by a U.S. car company is Toyota. All of those American that are U.A.W. Union memebers that assemble forign makes of cars here at U.S. plants would propably miss their jobs. If you want to keep jobs here in the U.S. then you ought to right your congressman and get them to pass a bill chargeing import tarriffs on all parts that enter the country even those for American makes of vechiles. They should have to put a label on all vechile listing the domestic versus forign content of a vechile. You would be suprised how many Chevy's or Fords are less domestic then a BMW or Toyota!

Mar, a person may be focusing more on their driving when they're racing through traffic, naturally, but the simple fact is this:

You're pushing your vehicle to almost 100% of its capability to race, right? What if someone does something stupid that you haven't predicted? You can't fix it, 'cause you're already at optimum performance - accident avoidance is now impossible.

What if you're flying down a backroad and there's a curve that you know (from careful practice) you can take at, say, 80 mph tops and stay in your lane without drifting into oncoming traffic. You see a car coming in the other lane. Do you take it at 80 mph? If so, you're assuming he or she knows what they're doing, because if they reach down to grab their cell phone (as you illustrated) and veer into your lane, you're gone - head-on guaranteed, and you're doing 80. OUCH!! You can't cut the corner any closer because you're already squealing through the turn and about to break loose.

Going through traffic, you're at the mercy of everyone else; keep a performance margin and you have a much better *chance* of avoiding a collision.

Doesn't matter how focused you are; the vehicle can do what the vehicle can do, and if you're pushing it to the limit you have nothing left. Focus all you want - that won't improve your suspension or tires, or the guy who suddenly realizes he needs *your* lane to make this exit. What would you rather hit another vehicle at - 70mph or 100? Impact force increase exponentially; an impact at 20 is considerably less than 2/3rds the force of an impact at 30. What if it's an offset collision that drives you into a concrete wall instead of a (softer) car? It may not even be deemed your fault, but money means nothing to a parapolegic (sp).

Someone pulls up beside me, (or me by them), and they are reving their engine..so I start reving my, sounding all mean...then I edge up just a little...they are going nuts...the light changes, I take off normally, they go like a bat out of hell for about 50 feet and looking very foolish...if their is a next light, I just grin or nod, (never shoot a bird). They usually know they have been had..works for me, no one hurt and I do not tear up my Dak.

As a firefighter here in New Berlin, we have had 3 people killed in out city alone this year from people racing with each other. Last year, six of my very closest friends were killed when their van was hit by a car going over 110+ on a backroad, racing with another car. Just because you feel as if you have control, you may hit something on the road...imagine hitting a patch of gravel or loose stone on a turn at 90 mph...say hello to Mr. Tree on the side of the road. Or even a simple patch of water...you will hydroplane...right into the other lane of traffic. Take it from me, I see it every week...up close. And people won't learn until they are laying on a cot in the back of flight for life (emergency airlift helicopter) on their way to Froedert (Major Trauma Hostpital).
