Alrighty then...which Merc had the 4.7L? Cause I'll go and buy it right now. The only Merc with a 4.7L began in 2007. And that one is DOHC.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Merc owned by DC?

Now does that make me a weretard Daddio?

Alright, try not to listen to me anymore because I'm a little slow.

I meant to say WEREFOOL.

Now that means I have to go buy a Merc and put some HO cams in it.

Last time I looked, Merc was the short word FOr Mercury. There owned by Ford Motor Company. You are definitely right in saying that THEY never put a 4.7 in one of there cars. I'm looking for the website to direct you to that expalins where the 4.7 came from and how it came about being put into the dakotas. Maybe then you will understand. I mean, I am not trying to knock you or anything but, Sometimes WEREFOOLS just need there noses rubbed in it like puppies!!

Wow! I just researched and it says that a 4.7 HO

A "High-Output" version of the 4.7 L PowerTech engine, producing 265 hp (195 kW) and 330 ft·lbf (448 N·m) of torque, was introduced in 2002, first appearing in the Jeep Grand Cherokee Special Edition.

265 and 330. That is more than the 5.9s, well close on the torque. Is it just cams and a manifold?

Anyway... to answer the dispute.

The PowerTech was a new engine family for Chrysler, and was not based on the Chrysler A engine as existing Chrysler V8s were. A 4.7 L V8 came first, fitted in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and a 3.7 L V6 version debuted in 2002 for the Jeep Liberty. The PowerTech V6 and V8 were direct replacements for Chrysler's LA family in the early 2000s, and were also used in the Dodge Ram. They were not used in any cars, but were reserved for truck and SUV use.

Chrysler used the "PowerTech" name on other engines used in Jeep vehicles, including the AMC Straight 6 engine (from 1996 onwards) and the 2.4 L four cylinder engine. The PowerTech V6 and V8 engines are produced at the Mack Avenue Engine Complex in Detroit, Michigan.

Applications:

* 1999-present Jeep Grand Cherokee
* 2000-present Dodge Dakota
* 2000-present Dodge Durango
* 2002-present Dodge Ram
* 2006-present Jeep Commander
* 2007-present Chrysler Aspen
Applications:

* 2002-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee available on Limited, Overland and Special Edition models and around one thousnd 2002 Dakotas had these installed into them.
* 2005-present Dodge Dakota
* 2008 Dodge Challenger [base models]

I do not see the Mercedes-Benz anywhere on here. Hmmm....

Finally... a V8. '01 Dodge Dakota RC, 4.7, 5-speed, 3.92 LSD. = R/T Killer.
well at least a stock one

If that is truly the case, what in the world were the Benz techs crying about??? Could it be that the 4.7 family is based on the German engine? I am going to do a little more digging myself, as one of the techs at Benz (who drove a CLK.) was the one who complained of this "disgrace" the most. He was also the shop foreman over there!!! Could the most "decorated" Benz tech have been mistaken??

Merc can also be used as a short for MERCedes. DUH! Just depends on who you talk to. Ever watch Top Gear?

Only a fool wouldn't be able to make that connection.

Now find that website and rub my nose in it!

Wylman - I did my homework long ago; so here I am to tell you you are wrong, as you requested. The Chrysler 4.7 (note that I once again said Chrysler, not DC) first debuted in the Jeeps - BEFORE the merger. Yes, Benz techs can be mistaken.

onehotkadota - Since "Merc" is such a common nickname for Mercury, and the common pronunciation of that is with a hard "C" (not sounding as an "s" like the c in Mercedes) - I think it is quite misleading to use that as short for Mercedes. People commonly call a Mercedes a "Benz" for short - don't you think that works much better ? I've never watched Top Gear - are you telling us they call a Mercedes a Merc ? That would be pretty dumb, since the phonetic pronunciation wouldn't sound like the start of the word Mercedes. If so, thanks for the warning. We get enough screwed up information pushed at us here; I wouldn't want to watch anything that deliberatly misleading...

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Kowalaski-I stand corrected!!! Sorry gentlemen!! Wow, to think a man with over 20 years "Benz" experience could be wrong about the cars he so passionately works on......Who'd a thunk??? Anyhow, I still love my 4.7 Dak and it is still Whopping up on the foriegn trucks on the flat track!! I will be racing this this Saturday night. If anyone is interested, Go to promud.com. They don't have many pics of the stock class trucks but, they do have the point standings. I'm listed as Wade King 2000 black Dakota under the A street division. Keep the Daks hot and ready to trot!!! Anyone here no anything about the Jex chip for the IAT????

Whaaa! I thought Merc stood for Mercury not Mercedes. Whaaa!

Top Gear is a British show. I'm guessing they don't have any crappy ass Mercury vehicles over there and thats why "Merc" is used commonly as a short for Mercedes.
Plus, we have been talking about Mercedes and not Mercury once, so I thought that would have been obvious.

"Anyone here know anything about the Jex chip for the IAT????"

I'm not sure what the "jex" chip is but modifying your IAT will only fool the PCM into thinking its getting colder air, therefore adding more fuel to compensate.

If you meant "Jet" chip they are complete crap too.

But if the Jex chip is different, please fill me in bro, cause thats a new one on me. You have a link? I'd like to check it out.

Keep on muddin dude! It's always nice to have a 4.7 dak kickin butt somewhere.

Correction....they have fixed the website and I am listed in a tie for third on the season under the B street class. The Jex chip is one I seen on Ebay, auction number 220146305280. It is listed as a Jex smart chip module. I have never heard of them before so, I was hoping someone here knew something about them. I know the Jet chip is junk. I had a friend who put one in his Ram and it only took three days for the truck to learn its way around it again. If none of these work, where is the most bang for the buck?

I just looked up the Jex chip and it seems like Bernds old IAT adjuster that he used to sell.

All it will do is add more fuel. I'm not sure how it could advance spark by tapping into the IAT but then again, I'm no Benz tech either. (just messin with ya)

Good luck on the muddin and let us know if you get video or something.

I have a video of my 5.125 run from the first night I ran out there. It's kinda dark and I don't guess it can be posted on here anywhere so....if you guys want to see it, I can email it to you. Either leave me your email address here or.....I'll leave mine and anyone who wants to see it can let me know. As far as the Jex chip......do they work or is it one of those things the PCM relearns its way around? They claim it corrects the IAT thinking that air temp it is recieving is as hot as it thinks it is. Something like a five to ten degree difference.....which will increase performance by allowing it to add more fuel for the cooler (denser) air. The "Drillautomotive" website only told me that it will work eith my truck, not if it is something that the truck will learn its way around. Although, they said they will refund it, with the cost of shipping, if I am not satisfied with it. I am almost ready to roll the dice. What do you guys think??

Are you sure that the Tundras are not just spinning a lot more than you? They have lower gears and more horsepower and torque. This sounds logical to me.

Shoe-might be, don't know for sure. Maybe they just aren't burning enough rice or are afraid to scrath their high dollar import or something.....who knows. I smoked one of them the very first night I ran. On the first run!! Like I said, maybe they just don't know how to run in the mud....who knows?? I did it on slick tires too!! Tomorrow night I will be running 305/70 16 Goodyear Wrangler Mud Grips.. not sure if they are going to help me or hurt me. I have been running 31/10.5 15's....slick as a baby's rearend. Hopefully I won't go fishtailing down the 200 like I did last time!!!

WTF!!! for this to be a Dakota forum, there sure are alot of IMPORT sympathizers!! Yes, it says toyota on the truck....therefore it is an import in my eyes. I guess you "I wish I had A Tundra guys" are ok with the fact that NASCAR has allowed Toyota to race as well. If it wasn't for fags like you, imports wouldn't have taken over the American car market.
