Finding the right person to install gears isn't as easy as some people think. Lots of mechanics just think they can do it. Even dealerships can do a lousy job. If you stated where you live you might get some recommendations.

Message: Not sure how big of a town you live in but I jwould go to a specific tranny shop. They will have a lot more experience doing rear ends than most side garages or even dealerships for that matter. Only problem is is that they are usually not cheap!! I went with the Richmond 410's with my Dak. I went to Mr.Transmission(Southern Ontario Canada) luckily a freind of mine works there. You are going to love the 410's!! I switched from 355's and the difference is AMAZING!!! Very good bang for buck.

Message: You should try and keep your final gearing about the same as you had stock. If you post your stock tire size and gear ratio, I can do the math for ya.
Or, you can do it yourself by going to the following link . http://4x4mods.com/Technical/calculator2.html
It will calculate the gear ratio you would need to be back at the "stock" setup. The look for a set of gears as close to the calculated number. In my opinion, with a 4 cylinder, you should look for the next higher #. I.e. if it says the new ratio should be 3.77, you should get 3.92's. If it says 3.97, you should look for 4.1's.

Message: with 32" tires ur gonna want 4.10s at the least. 4.56s would be much better. with 4.56 and 32" u will only be at 2000rpms at 60mph which is great. i run 4.56s on my r/t and have 28" tires so i run 2300rpm at 60mph and i dont mind it.

Message: Every time I read one of these posts I have to wonder why no one ever adapts an overdrive unit to there truck. Then run the 4.56 gears and still have decent highway gearing for fuel millage. In the old days, all cars bought with an overdrive unit came with 4.10 gears. some years ago I installed a warn overdrive to a CJ5 that I put a rebuilt 283 in. This jeep had the 5.38 gears and with the overdrive I was able to drive at freeway speed with no problem. I also adapted overdrive unites to 2 dodge power wagons from the 50's . Just not that hard to do keeping in mind all different trucks would require rethinking how to go about it.

Message: You're talking about the stand alone OVER-DRIVE "boxes" that went after the transmission.
I have heard of those.
That would be hgard to do on a 4X4 like my Dakota. :P
I'm ok with my RPM's on the freeway except at about 80MPH mine runs over 2k and has a little resonance, I think from the exhaust.
But nothing that 32" tires wont fix later :)
