They are out there. I have Mopar 4.10's in my 2wd Dakota. I don't know of a gear manufacturer that doesn't sell 4.10's. Call them and ask them. They might not list them on their website. by the way...make sure to change both the front and rear gears!

oh..they look big on your truck. Do they rub at all? I am planning on upgrading to 265/75/16's which would be 1" taller than yours and i wondering if they will rub. We both have 03 4X4's so they should have about the same clearance. Do you have your t-bars cranked at all in that pic?

I've got mine cranked. Thinking of dropping my 2" home brew lift back down to 1". just for reliablity and to soften my ride back up a little.
Stock was too soft. Cranked up it's rock hard. Not too bad, but I hate knowing I've got my shocks and everything sitting at the upper travel limit.

I've got 255 65 16's. Same height as my stock 245 70 16's which are 29. something inches tall.

I wonder how Androind has 265 70's on his stock. unless he remembered wrong. Who knows... Those would be even taller than mine.

I'm thinking more the lines of 4.56's. I've seen them available at a few places. I'll have to look again.

Yup they are 265/70/r16. They probably look big on my truck because where i took the pic i was slightly down hill. In that pic my t bars are not cranked. They are now though and my trucks sits just shy of level.

The 265/75r15 will fit on your truck no problem. You may have to keep your t bars slightly cranked if you ever want to lower them. I was thinking of putting so tires on that size for the winter with some crazy tread pattern. Where i work we never close due to weather. And i mean never. Plus my friends and i like to go through un plowed parking lots to see if we can get stuck.

I'm thinking about putting some 285/60r16 on the truck for the spring and summer. That would be 29.4 inches tall and have a tread width of one inch wider than my current tires, according to all the manufacture specs.

Gotta love the superchips tire change capability.

Hey Graph you can always go bigger tires if you don't like the 4.56's. Good luck with the swap and hurry up, gears are a blast.

I was tempted to go to 4.56 too; not a bad idea if you can adjust with tire size if it seems too low. Like Android says, I get slightly better milage with the 4.10 over 3.55. My 4.10s came from Randy's; they have them.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Graph, the 265/70-16s were listed as an option in conjunction with the tow package on my 02 QC. I honestly assumed that that was the most common size for these trucks

My 01 cc 4.7 5-speed 4x4 came off the lot new with P265/70/16 Goodyear. Changed to a LT265/75/16 tire with a more aggressive A/T type tread almost immediately. Now that I have the Rancho lift with LT285/75/16 M/Ts, still weighing wether to go 4:10 or 4:56. Seems like in old posts, guys only liked the 4:56 for stoplight to stoplight fun or if they were really lifted on 35s.

Yeah. I am thinking that 4.10's would be BEST if I stayed with my size tires, 29's. 4.56's for SURE if I got closer to 31's.

Tough decision. If I can't find 4.56's for the 8" IFS up front, then my option will be more towards 4.10's obviously.

Hey guys, this might help you out a bit on your decision of 4.10's or 4.56's

I spent a little while here doing some number crunching. Seems to be fairly accurate for my speeds.

Here was something I came up with a while back. For MY situation anyway. Makes it nice to see everything all at once...

Gears with 5-45RFE Auto 60MPH 3rd gear 60MPH O/D 80MPH O/D
3.55 2534 1748 2331
4.10 2927 2019 2691
4.56 3255 2245 2994

Gears with 5-45RFE Auto Shift Points at 6K
RPM
1st Gear 2nd Gear 3rd Gear 4th Gear 5th Gear
Dakota 5 speed auto
 3.55
47 85 140 190 200+
Dakota 5 speed auto
4.10
41 73 123 164 179
Dakota 5 speed auto
4.56
36 66 110 147 160

I would go up 600RPM's in OD when doing 80MPH. I think I could handle that. And if it's too much. I'd swap out my 29" tires for 31" the next tire change.
