Subject: R/T Factory Tire Size

Message:
I have a 2000 Dakota R/T regular cab. From what I have read on this site and what it says on tirerack.com, R/T's came with 255/55R17's. But it says on my drivers door that factory size was 225/55R17. What gives? The only thing I can think of is that my Dakota is Canadian. Were they different? Thanks in advance for any help.

Possibly a typo. I know my 2003 R/T has 255/55R17's.

My Sport sticker says 215/75R 15 and it came stock with 235/75R15. I have no idea what their logic is.

I'm just trying to figure what is supposed to be on it so when I get new tires they will be the right diameter. I think when I bought it last year it had 255/55's. I put on 255/45's cause they were cheap. But one tire got destroyed so I was going to put two hopefully wider tires on the back. I just want my speedo to be reasonably accurate.

I went from 235/75R15 to 275/60R17 and only have a 4% error. 60mph indicated is actually 62.4mph. I don't know about you but I would call that reasonably accurate. Do a search for a tire/wheel calculator and you can find the error on almost any combination you want to use.

my 2002 r/t also says 225/55/17 but it came with 255/55/17 and i bought it brand new. its just a typo or something. go for the nitto tires though. i just got them in 275/50/17 and they look soooo much better. they dont really perform any better but they look and ride MUCH nicer. i was expecting better traction but they are about the same as the stock tires.

I'm using a 275/60 R 17. fits nice, and doesn't affect speedo too much... those 255/55's look dinky on the R/Ts...

dont u think 275/60 is a little too big of a tire? its not gonna offer the same handling and its no longer a low profile tire like wat the r/t came with.
