I doubt it any of the old chrysler turbo engine parts would bolt up to a jeep engine. but you might be able to take a just the turbo off one of these engines and modifiy you exhaust manifold to hook it up among other things. These turbos are a dime a dozen in the junkyards. I am thinking of swaping in a hole chrysler 2.5 turbo one engine in my '94 with a TBI 2.5 and a stick. everything should bolt right up with a few mods and with some more very cheep and simple mods they will make over 300hp and leave them most V8 in the dust.

How do you modify your manifold to bolt on a turbo? And don't you also need to worry about the wastegate? Could you pay a shop to do this? If so how much do you think it would cost?

You can modify the exhaust manifold however you want make your own flange to mount on the the turbo or cut one off another turbo manifold but you need some one who knows how to work with exhaust manifolds to do it becouse I think you got to heat the area your welding red hot in order for it to last. But that is the easy part. The turbos have a wastgate built in but you have to figure out a way to control it. You can look on all thoughs turbo fwd mopar sites they might have something. Then there is all the tuning trying to get it to run right and you would have to install low compression pistons if you want to make any amount of boost. And hook up the coolant and oil lines. Put an nice 3 inch exhaust and and intercooler and go blow the V8 out of the water.

Well, for one I found out that my friend found somone that would buy his Charger yeterday, so I wont get that, but now that I have seen some good install pics through various sites on the web I will Go to the Junkyard and grab a turbo manifold and the turbo, and take some measurements, and go from there. I know that I will need some good heat shielding to go inbetween the exhuast, and intake manifolds. I just need to figure out whether to get a dry bearing turbo, or oiled. I don't know that much about that, but I will need to figure out what size to get, and see if I can find an used one. If anyone has some more info on how to do all of this, now would be a great time to throw in some good warnings, and all that. I only want about 6-9#'s of boost right now, so the whole tuning thing should work itself out like it does with the supercharger kits. No need for new piston or cranks yet anyways. But I will need to figure out all of the ducting, and maybe some kind of a BOV, so it won't pop off when I back off the throttle. I know there are people on this site with some really good knowledge so give me your opinions please.
Thanks,
Rat

I would get a oiled bearing turbo if you want to to live for any length of time on the street and liquid cooled too if you don't want to let it sit and idle for a min too cool down before you shut it off.

The factory parts were designed to last a long time. And generally speaking, they do. So try not to deviate too far from the factory set up. The more mods you make, and the more complicated it is, the sooner it will break down.

There are a couple of "dry" bearing turbos that work well. I have one on my Harley from Aerocharger. It's very nice that it has it's own internal oil resevoir, so I didn't have to plumb an additional oil line. But they are getting hard to find, so they are expensive.

The factory parts require a small oil line to keep the bearings alive. It's common to tap off the oil pressure sender port for this. You may have to place a small restrictor in the line to keep it from bleeding off too much pressure from the main bearings. Usually a -4 line is enough of a restriction that it's not an issue. Again, check and see how it was done on the Charger.

One of the big problems with turbos is that they get very hot. After you shut it down, the bearings are still very hot, but now they have no oil flow to keep them alive. Look at the Canton web site for an Accusump. It's relativly cheap, easy to install, and works very well.

If you live where it's hot, strongly consider an intercooler. I think some of the Fords had one from the factory.

And don't forget to modify the distributer for less timing advance.

I would like to have an intercooler with the project, but I'm not sure about where to mount it, cause my AC, engine radiators are taking up all of the space already. My frien Phill is coming back from Iraq in a few days, and he is really used to the whole setup now, so I am going to do alot of studying now. Another thing. What does the orientation of the turbo have to be? Does it have to sit a certain way, for better cooling and oiling, if it doesn't have it's own resevior? I don't think it does, so I will figure out where i want it to sit, for the air intake. I'll have to determine weather or not I will have an intercooler on there too. Or I'll just make sure it will work either way so I can install one later. Plus, with the intake manifold right above where it will be I will have a more difficult time with the placement for room. It's a good thing I have a truck though, so at least I won't have to worry about it hitting the ground.
Keep sending the info,
Thanks again,
RAT

If you are only running a that 6 lbs of boost there should be know need for a intercooler. But if you still want a intercooler every chrysler turbo car but the turbo ones had a intercooler.

Only use an intercooler if it's hot where you drive, or you use more than 6-8 psi of boost. I don't have one on my Harley, and it's not been a problem. I live in central CO.

Installing one is pretty easy. Just put it down underneath and behind the radiator, parallel to the ground. Then use aither a scoop or a small fan to create air flow. Or put it off to the frivers side of the radiator, and cut some holes in the support panel.

Well... I wen to the Junk yard today and pulled the tubo, exhaust manifold, and some of the rear exhaust parts that bolted on to the turbo, out of a 2.6L Mitsubishi Starion. It spins nicely and just need to be cleaned up. A guy that I work with has some really nice welding tools, and cutting saws, so I am going to take the manifold and cut the part that bolted to the turbo and make an adapter to fit my truck. I talked to a friend guy that works at AutoZone up where I live and he gave me more info on how to hook up the oil for the turbo, and how to rum the air tubing. Tommarro I am going to take the intercooler off of a supercharged toyota at the junk yard if it looks like it will fit. All and all, I am out $160 for all of the parts! All I need to do now is some good cleaning, and figure out a way to get the air tubing hooked up. I also need to get a boost guage, and a air/fuel ratio guage, and I'll be set for about 50hp at least... I'm seeing a little more fun for my next days off. I'll keep you posted, and take some pictures.
Thanks for the help guys,
Rat

Okay, now I have taken the turbo apart, and completely detailed it, then painted it with High temp aluminum ceramic paint. Looks brand new. I am taking the fiting off of the old turbo manifold with a hack saw right now and I will turn it into an adapter for mineonce I get to use my friend tools. It's alot of cutting, but I am only getting it off right now, I will fininsh it next week. I just need to get a boss for the oxygen sensor movement, and some good tubing to go from the turbo to the TB.
