I currently own a 99 Dodge Ram, 318 (5.2?) 5 speed manual. I
love the Dodge but after buying a bassboat have noticed some
real problems towing up our mountains. (Western North
Carolina) I do OK in the flats but need more power. I am thinking
of downsizing to a Dakota and would like your rec's on which
engine and or model (quad cab) I should look for. I want an
automatic this time. (Boat, motor and trailer weighs between
1200-1300 lbs.)
Thanks for the help,
Glen

4.7 should be able to handle that. Your best acceleration would be with the 3.92 gears; 3.55 is more common. I tow much heavier than that with lighter 3.55 regular cab. Might want to look for tow package, comes with transmission cooler.
