i test drove a nisan titan today. it runs like the 1989 taurus sho. that is one bad motha.
it was raining so i couldn't get in too bad but i did hold the gears (close ratio 5 spd auto) and it's dohc so its got high rpm power like no 4.7. it's like having a hemi with some sophistication. less horsepower per stats, but more low end, and less weight. just so i don't get kicked off, i would still take a hemi dakota over any truck listed previously in this post, including the post i just made.

Say what you want but check out the new Sporttruck mag. The 4.7 got killed by the 4.0 Toyota; the dakota ran a 16.1 and the toy ran a 14.9! If you don't believe it read it in black and white for yourself. But I'm sure you'll comeback and say that your 4.7 is one of those mid 14s Quadcabs. :\

Deep Dak, actually no, I wasn't going to say that.
I have an 01.
I'm sure it can be beat, by a lighter, v6, especially when it puts out about as much stock HP. Mine's not all stock, minor mods at best, but ones that are actually dyno proven, no forced induction. A few more non Forced Induction mods to come. Including this new Superchips tuner, that hopefully will advance my timing a little more-I know already I DON'T have the timing retard 'death flash'. I don't need any shift point change on my manual tranny.

I'm sure you all have ridden in a taco. They're smaller, loss towing, etc.

I bet they're ball joints last though!

Just curious here, does the '05 toyota with the V6 put out more torque then any of our daks?

My mechanic friend says that torque is the most important spec in a truck. So anyone care to do a comparison?

nope, but it does weight less. might be same torque to weight (until you tow of course) but better hp to weight.

Sorry, guys (or gals), but I'm still trying to understand why there is so much controversy over how fast a TRUCK will go. I know I'm gonna catch he11 for this post, but here it goes... My '02 4.7 QC will get me up the on-ramp pretty quick and I can pass if the need arises, and I have done some things to it to make it perform a little better and help the gas mileage, but other than that, it's a TRUCK. You know - those vehicles with tree limbs hanging out of the back of them, pulling a trailer full of lawn mowing equipment? Or those vehicles with tool boxes and a 50 gallon tank of diesel in the bed? And taking a vehicle that has the aerodynamics of a sheet of plywood and expecting it to "kick ass" just won't work. If a person really had a need to not be passed by another vehicle, it seems they would purchase a 'Vette or Viper or a European luxury sedan, or modify the hell out of some good old American muscle from 40 years ago. Our vehicles weren't made to go fast. I have tried to drive my 4X4 Dak over 75MPH and, unless you're on a track or a deserted back road, you're asking for trouble, especially considering those on the road with you. I live near a big city and see and hear about people wrapping their vehicles around utility poles or taking out someone's mom by driving their vehicles beyond the vehicle's capabilities. I feel a need for speed just like any other red-blooded American male, but not in a good ol' Pick-em-up truck.

Do you think Toyota gives a flip about their customers? Check out: www.nhsta.dot.gov/NCAP/Cars/2977.html and decide if you even want to even BE in a moving Tacoma!

I followed that link, backed up in the site and looiked up the quad cab Dakota. It had 5 star rating for side impacts.
I'm tempted to pull my front plastics and weld in some more steel behind it across my front frame to really tear somebody up.

Goes to show you American steel still rules. (even tho I think Toyota is built here as well, it's thinner steel).
