Subject: intercooler IP: Logged
Message: hey all
i want to put an intercooler on my 98' 5.2 dakota. will this make a diference if its not a turbo? also if anyone has tips on installing it or parts i will need let me know, this is all kinda new to me.

Message: You could put one in but it wouldn't give you anywhere near enough performance to justify the cost, they're really only viable for superchargers or turbochargers.

Message: Why so your engine would have to suck the air through the intercooler as well as the filter?Less restriction = better performance.
intercoolers work on boosted engines because turbo's and sc's cause heat, compression of air generated heat along with the unit itself, the intercooler cools the charge temp down, depending on how efficient it is, sometimes as cool as ambient air temps. An intercooler is not going to lower the intake temp lower then ambient temps.
you would cause more restriction then it's worth.
