Revved my '69 318 to 5800 on a routine basis, and it had all stock bottom-end. Setting up the 360 Magnum for "stab-and-steer" at 5800....or just over 6 grand with manual control.

The average joe doesn't have a "nascar" type motor in their dak. And how many people do you know zing their stock motors past 5000 rpm's and keep it above that rpm range for an extended time?

I take mine just to the rev limiter about every time I drive it.
Seems to hit about 5800 when the limiter stops me :-(
I bet the 4.7 could do 6500 easy on stock internals. WHen they come out with a programmer I'll move mine to 6500. Now of course I never hold mine at redline. But slipping and sliding in 4 wheel mine's stayed above 5K for 10~20 seconds many of times.

What's nice about the new tranny behind the 4.7 is it must learn your driving habits somewhat.
I can give mine half throttle from a light and it will go past 4K easy. 3/4 throttle and it goes past 5k. It's kind of nice to have a tranny that lets you wind out the gears a little without having to floor it.

Are you sure that's a rev limiter ? I thought it was just where the auto tranny shifts when running wfo. Never held it in gear looking for more revs to really know.

I have had this thing for about six months and run it to 6k and just over 3 to 4 times a week going through the gears. Everything seams fine I am very religous about service. Another 100 hp would be nice. Maybe one day

I take my 4.7 to 6 in the any of the first three gears, about once a week. With the light mods I have, it pulls to there! I do have the 5 speed, manual.

If you have an auto, I guess you could do the same thing, right, shift it manually I mean.

yes,but to hit 6000 in 3rd we would be doing like 98 and hit the governor which would shut us down...lol. As for us taking our 4.7's to 6500 i just dont know about very much of that. A good biult motor could bearly take 7000 alot. When i take my 4.7 to the limiter which seems like about 5800 maybe 5900, but when it gets up past 5000 it doesnt really seem to pull very hard i guess its the low t/hp that the 4.7's have i just dont think they'll be any good to 6500

i have taken my 4.7L to 6200 (rev limiter) by holding it manualy in 1st or second. I only did this 2 times, and I don't plan on doing it again LOL!! I think the OHC design, should be able to take the revs no problem...My 45RFE shifts on it's own at about 5500 rpms....

The other thing about the 4.7 that allows it to rev well is that it has lighter reciprocating parts than the other motors. There are hotter cams available for those who want to be still making power at 6k.

I have a Mopar PCM so getting to 6k is not a problem. I was kind of vague, I rev it to just over 6k and have had it to 110 but I dont max third gear at those rpm's. How high will the performance pcm let you take it, both in revs and in speed.?

With my cam swap and TB porting mine pulls all the way to where it hits the limiter.

Now that the power doesn't drop like it kind of did stock I have hit my rev limiter (when shifting manually) because it is still pulling.

I know what the rev limiter is like. I have taken every vehicle to the rev limiter that I have had. And the cars without them I drove until the valves floated!

Thumper,

You have the 99mph limiter? What a bummer.

My 2001, 4.7, 5speed manual, with the tire and handling pack, etc. has the 118! And it's a Quad Cab.

I just came home from eating out. I gave the truck 1/4 to 1/3 throttle from each light and it shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 4500 to 5000 RPM's.
1/2 throttle shifts about 5100 or so. Maybe it's my driving habits that gives me the later shift times. I like the shifts. Maybe the TPS tweak helps as well. Dunno. I modded my TPS when I got the truck new.
