I'm one who has the HO cams, on my 4.7, 5spd manual Quad Cab Dak, it's a 2001. Other mods as well.

Yes, it's an excellent mod. I bought mine before the price doubled, I paid $53 a cam, new, from a Jeep dealer.

As far as the PCM flash, I'm not entirely sure. I think you can call, with your VIN #, and find out.

Shouldn't void warranty; they won't even know they're in there if you don't tell them.
How do they test emissions where you are ? I just passed obdii port testing with the cams and a custom flash, no problem. I would think they'd pass sniffer test too, after all this is a stock part for a different application.

Even with KRC's 206 cams, no problem passing a sniffer.

death flash? I could tell you,

but,

Then I'd have to kill you!

It's DC's attempt at eliminating knocking, pinging, otherwise known as predetonation.
It basically retards the timing a few degrees, so it idles smoother, isn't as prone to predetonation, and

Robs you of some HP in the process. Albeit not much, but many who where, eh, lucky enough to get it, noticed a difference, expecially with the auto trannies. YOu know, the whole brake torque thing to get it to spin the tires.

The 2000-2002 stock 4.7 intake manifold allows a slightly lower rpm torque curve with the HO cams, while the 2003-up/HO manifold settles in at a higher rpm. If you want to feel the "pull" for daily driving under 4000 rpm, use the "old" manifold. If you are into letting the 4.7 scream, go with the HO-type IM. I kept my stock 2001 IM with my '01 4.7 5-spd, and love it.

That's a good explanation - manifold will shift the power band. I kept the stock one for that reason too. If you don't have an upgrade sticker on your PCM, you don't have the death flash. Also, many of the upgrades didn't retard timing, so even if you have a sticker, it doesn't mean you have it for sure. I've heard flashes with suffix before AH (AB,AC, etc.) don't retard timing.

The 206's or 212's would run great with your set up. Just depends on how much you want to spend. The HO cams are still the best bang for the buck.

jim, CThomp is right.

You will get more improvement from the cams, even the milder stock hO cams, than probably any other mod you have so far. But, they will be knd of synergistic, and really work well together. You may even get another program from KB, if they do such a thing as individualize the flash.

I currently live in the Houston/Galveston area.

into a 5speed manual, and 3.55 LSD, 2wd, with the 16's on the tire and handling pack.

PS, I think the 5speed manual 1st fear with the 3.55, and still shorter than the 1st on an auto, with 3.92's- I thought, but that's another thread,

OK THE DEATH FLASH IS THE PROGRAM THAT COMES FROM THE FACTORY, OR IS IT THE ONE WHEN THE DEALER FLASHES THE PCM?

Its when the dealer flashes it because you complain about the various possible issues mentioned above.

Oh yeah and turn your caps off. No need to yell at us.

Jim,

Lurkin and I installed them ourselves, on our 4.7's, we did both the same day. We had a little problem with his, that luckily, was fixed under his warranty! And if I did them again, wouldn't let it happen again, knowing now what could go wrong. We had knocked one of his lifters off, and didn't see it out of place.

E-mail me if interested.

TexasTodd / Given the HO Cams are new and the 206's are a re-grind with more duration and lift and have to create more horsepower, and even at a cost of about $500 more than the HO's would you recommend the 206's for every day driving??? Thats what I think I need and want! and.........would you help me install the 206's and what would you charge me?? at this point in my very old life, I reall close to doing it, Again Thanks, Jim

Zendak, I was prepared to pay for the work if they questioned what happened. At the time we weren't sure what had happened as we'd taken the thing apart again after it started "funny" and it looked fine, except we didn't fully take the driver's side cam cover off due to the pain in the azz quotient. Guess which side the lifter arm was off on??

I dropped it off at the dealer and said, "Look at how it's running..." and left it. It took them 2 days to figure it out, another day to get the parts, and one last day to put it back together. They never questioned how it happened or could tell that the cams were not stock.
