I have a 99 dakota SLT....I am in need of a new Cat convertor.....I would really like to have a high flow cat.....however, also, I am looking for a catback that has the "tips" pointing out EACH side behind the rear tires.....anyone know of a catback that has that design?

Thanks
Pierre

If you're under 80K miles, you may have a hard time getting a muffler shop to replace it. Federal Warranty Coverage on the Catalytic Convertor is 8/80...no muffler shop can touch it...with one exception: Your Cat warranty needs to be voided by the dealer.

If you're less than 50K miles, have the dealer replace it....it's FREE.

I've got my Random Technology Cat sittin in my garage just waiting to be installed though. ;)

Here is the problem:
The truck already has some kind of catback on it that was welded to the catalytic convertor.the pipe was cut and shortend coming from the cat....well...the catalytic convertor has failed.....the dealer wants 210 bones to replace the catalytic convertor (the convertor) IS
covered under warranty...however...the current catback has rusted and the dealer wants to charge for cutting the cat off the old catback and re-welding it to the "new" catback".......I have already thought about going with High flow cats from a muffler shop.....I am friends with them.....My cat has been confirmed to be bad....

What do you think?

To give an idea on price, I got a complete custom fab system from the headers including two cats, two mufflers, and two chrome tips. 2.5" head pipes and 2.25" tail pipes for $550 installed. Aluminized pipe inside and out.

I already have almost he same setup on there right now....except that I have 1 pipe going to one muffler(1 in and 2 out) and then seperating to each side behind the tires with chrome tips....I am looknig to redo (or purchase this catback, as it is not in the greatest of shape).....Is my exhaust some kind of fabbed catback or can it be purchased like this?.....I am the second owner of this truck.....I really like the looks of this kind of setup over just one pipe coming out of ONE side...or 2 pipes going straight out the back!
It looks KILLER from the rear!!.....BUT!!!!....my question is: Can this catback style be bought somewhere?...or do I have to have it made?

Thanks!

Gibson makes the best for the buck, dual cat-back system, flowmaster is not user friendly. I have a 99' Sport with chip, intake and Gibson exhaust. On the dyno it produces more bhp than the 5.9L engine. My little 5.2 scoots. Check out www.gibson.com, the system sells for about $300 depending who you have install it...

To answer your question, NO, I have not seen anyone that makes a setup that exits behind both rear wheels.

You can order a Gibson dual (straight back) exit and probably have the muffler shop bend it but it might void any warranty Gibson offers.

Well...just got done putting on the dual pipe flowmaster catback at the meffler shop.....I used a 50 series delta flow flowmaster(1 in/2 out) and then ran 2.5 inch out both sides in the middle of the rear tires and the rear bumpers.....dual stainless tips per side...tips have not arrived yet......
Sound is great, very deep and mellow...very small resonance in the interior.....I am impressed.
total cost $260 bucks flat.....yehaaww!!

Any good exhaust shop can shape any aftermarket pipe to exit behind each rear tire.

check out the system from MBRP in canada. It's made just for the Dakota, called the cuda style ,and comes with everything including a new rear panel which replaces the bumper. It has two big rectangular chrome tips exiting out thru two cuttouts in the panel like the old 70's cuda's. The sound is really nice and you can't get a better looking system for the Dakota anywhere. It comes in either aluminized steel or stainless steel. The Muffler bolts right up to the cat and has two pipes exiting and routed back to the tips. It's a real clean system. I installed it myself in about two hours. If you want any more info or would like me to send you a few pictures let me know.
