I'm trying to decide which supercharger is the best to get for my 5.9L. I've searched and read thru most of the posts. From what I can gather, the Paxton is the all around best. If anyone has more input that would be great.

RUthLEss, Can't speak for Paxton, But I just installed a Vortech SC on my 2001 R/T 23k miles on Friday.
JBA header and Borla Cat back, that's it. I am running 8lb of boost. The installation is a little more complex than others but well worth it.
The outcome is sick. It dynoed at 219RHP before SC and Monday it goes in for Dyno tuning after SC.I will post the results. I can tell you this, It is a different truck now. I have to relearn how to drive it. LOL

Well Paxton has certainly got the additional fuel issue handled the best for these motors.

I am running an ATI procharger set-up, it took a lot of work to get the fuel set in correct, but we are ready for lift off now :-)

Kenne Bell will not work well unless on a completely stock motor.

Vortec is said to be a good alternative.

Powerdyne has serious issues if you try and run more than 6 lbs of boost, it likes to go BOOM!

Dyno result 293rhp 380 torque. A little issue with timing retard. Here in california the highest octane is 91 so I have to add retard to help in detonation. The Crane ingintion retard dial starts at 0 degrees of retard to 20 degress. I am at lets say 7 degress of retard which is alot if you think about it. The intake tube is getting really hot so I am thinking intercooler or injection system to lower the incoming air temp therefore being able to take less retard out resulting in more HP. I do not no why the don't just sell the WHOLE kit togehter. In coming hot air is never good but Vortech claims this is normal. Also it started to lean out a little at 5200 rpm but not bad. Stand by as I dial in better. Remember, No SC is a plug and play so to speak. If you want HP it is going to take some tinkering.

You had a net HP gain of roughly 34% with the addition of the Supercharger. Very nice.

but just to show you the difference a intercooler can make.

Before the ATI Procharger/Intercooler set up on my 2003 R/T I dynoed 243 RWHP.
After I dynoed 377 RWHP roughly a 55% increase in power.

That is with 9-10 lbs of boost.

I am looking into a intercooler now. What are you using? My SC is vortech. Runs way to hot! Plus the retard amount is to high. I now about GS motorsports intercooler. Any others?

I installed the KB supper charger on my 2001 4.7. with Catback Flow master and relocated the Cold air inlet.. I also did the trany TQ Mod for the RFE 45. I run 392:1 gears
No inter cooler or after cooler is need due to the pull threw screw compressor..I found that KB when they reflash the PCM are very concervative. with every thing .. I assume this to be a Wart issue.. I
a before and after.
194RWHP@5400 RPM
276 RWTQ 4400 RPM
the before was not done on my truck but just another Dak. with the same set up..
ater was
325 HP at 5700
334FTLB @ 4700
the boost bounces around between 6-8 at full petal to the metal..
There was some more tuning on the Dyno.. done between the runs
I got the Iuirdum Plugs
cold thermostat
5" open core muffler
NO headers.
Cleaned up intake ports a bit..
But KB Manfiold not radiused inside
All that can be done has been done..
and when I found that GM offered a HP crate motor with the Powdered Metal rods I now feel better about them as I can find no spec`s on them.
still sorry about my spelling.
PS been to the strip
Best 1/8 8.60
Best 1/4 was 13.5 @ 98
Next time I will run slicks as I can borrow a set. and lighten it up some. I got no wheel spin as the track was very sticky and very hot the Humity and temp were also high. any one who has done the fuel pump mod to get more fuel let me inow I don`t want to spend another $200.00 to KB

Dakota52318, that's awesome cutting off that much time. Right now, my best run has been 15.89 @ 85.5. (Not bad for a Quad Cab!) I've done a couple little changes since then, so I can't say if they're better or not. I installed 3923 plugs, removed the K&N heat shield, and removed that little rubber flap on the passenger side of the radiator. It feels like it's got more punch, but I haven't been to the track since I did that to verify.

Thanks for all the info, guys!

hey Ruth,

With those extra mods, all things being equal, you wouldn't even see a tenth. Unless you needed new plugs.

Does any other SC maker Besides Keene Bell include a compleate Anti-knock system with there kit? does any of them Have full Boost a 1200 RMP
The Max boost is not controled by the pully size..It is controled by a sept. Computer and Last but not the KB is a pull threw Screw type so the air that is going into the Cyl. are about 100* cooler than the Spinners and Roots and the last 2 have to wind up to get full boost. The KB will drive as a normal Truck if you do not put your foot into it it stays in bypass and just free wheels along . as soon as it comes out of BY pass full boost and fuel are right there. not slowing building up with the Eng. RPM
BTW I agree with the one fellow
a Motor has to have externial Power to run an Engine does not.

Kevin,

Check out this guy's websight. He's using an SMC Enterprises Alcohol injection setup, which might help with the detonation and low octane. He's pushing 400rwhp and 444rwt!!! pretty impresive with with a vortech system and a stock motor with a couple bolt-on's. Makes me wana go get a SuperCharger now..... Keep us posted on tunning progress.
