Folks, I got a small dilema here.....I'm "wanting" a tad more power/deeper sound out of my '04 4.7 and wondering what route is the best, and one that will NOT mess with any warranty situation. I don't want loud, just deeper ya know....Also would like to make the stereo a little stronger but don't know if I should go with an amp 1st or with better speakers 1st..And "YES", money's an issue and I can only do one at a time..Which do y'all think I should do and as far as more power/better exhaust sound, what way is best ?? Thanx, Marty

Not so sure if you should really expect more power from a muffler change on a 4.7; does that help your decision ?

As far as exhaust, I didn't notice much difference in HP/Torque (I don't have Dyno #s either). If anything a gain in HP and a loss in torque due to losing some back pressure with a less restrictive muffler. So I basically can maintain speed a little better but I lost some acceleration if this makes any sense. But again it wasn't a big enough difference to notice...

But if your looking to make your truck sound a whole lot MEANER than it really is, get a catback exhaust system. I have a single in/dual out flowmaster 40 series delta flow muffler to dual 2.5" pipes w/ 3.5" stainless steel tips. Cost me $275 for the parts and installation. Around $100 for the muffler, $50 for the tips, and $125 for labor. I watched the guy bend all of the pipes and weld everything together and he did an AWESOME JOB. According to warranty laws this will not void your warranty unless the problem is caused by your modified exhaust. In my experience a pretty rare thing considering all of my buddies have modified exhaust system and has never had any problem from them.

For you stereo, upgrade your deck first. Then speakers, then amp. The stock deck runs around 2 ohms or so and the amp in it sucks. Granted changing the deck to an aftermarket deck may blow the factory speakers due to the fact the factory speakers run at 2 ohms, if your moderate with the volume, equalizer, etc., you will be okay. Then you can start working on replacing the stock speakers which will also give you some gains. Lastly throw an amp in there to give your new aftermarket speakers more clarity, etc.

Going between a new exhaust system or a stereo upgrade is your call. My opinion is the exhaust. It's cheaper, makes your truck sound meaner than it is, and other people can hear it if that's what your trying to achieve.

Check out magnaflow for mufflers or cat backs. They have a nice deep tone. Just doing a muffler swap will save you a few bucks. Most mufflers shops won't charge you too much to swap one. If your not going to be doing too much work to your engine, the factory pipes are just fine.

For the stereo i would recommend replacing the cd player with an Alpine or pioneer. The pioneers are nice because you can put your speakers on a high pass filter. The you can buy a small amp and sub for the lows.

I did just about the same as Big Pitty. Ran 3 inch pipe to a Flowmaster 40, then dual 2.5 inch tailpipes. Sounds freakin mean, dunno if I got any extra power but it gives off a really nice DEEP sound. I love it. Yea, I'd upgrade your headunit and speakers first, then run the amp to em. Runnin an amp to stock speakers can blow em out if they can't handle the extra power.
