Sunday, June 30th at Oceano Dunes (Pismo, CA)

Anyone planning to be in the area? Both myself and ForeXFour are going to meet around 11 AM on Sunday (I'll be there Friday and Saturday as well). If you're local or just passing through, come on by and play in the sand! Expect great beach weather, with a little wind of course. BTW, ForeXFour puts on an awesome winch demonstration :)

Check out the link below for more info.

You forgot to mention that I prefer to be the one pulling and not being pulled.

But I will try anything as long as I am not gonna tear up anything. Lets get stuck for the hell of it! Why not good practice.

Man the sand can get deep and thick quick!

I will see you there Bud!

I'M THERE!!!

I live in San Luis Obispo (about 10 miles from the SVRA Oceano Dunes ie Pismo Dunes), and i have a year pass there, so i'm totally in, i'm going to bring my friend Jimmy, he drives a toyota and he knows the dunes like the back of his hand! I'll also try to talk my friend Dave Smee into going, he drives a new Hummer H1 and he's local Search and Rescue.

When it gets closer to the date i'll post my cell phone number so you guys can call me when you get here.

I might be able to make that since I'm on the left coast temporarily. I'm in Pacific Grove until July 9th. I was also thinking about going to Hollister Hills at some point...never been there before.

Hollister has pretty cool trails but the real tuff ones are more jeep size (very narrow). They do have camping but usually the truck area camping fills up first but they do have more camping in the motocycle area.

Let's do it Dan! When can you go?

DJ and I are here in the South Bay.

I know Hollister pretty well. Did you checkout the Pictures on my Web site? Allot of those are from Hollister.

http://forexfourdakota.freeservers.com/index.html

DJ I know it's all about your truck this weekend but I could probably hook up this weekend.

Dan not sure if you know how far Pismo is South but it is about 3 hours or a little less for you.

FXF,

I can do Hollister or Pismo prety much anytime. I'm on vacation until I fly out of San Jose on July 9th heading for Korea. Just shoot me a note if you've got time to meet at Hollister, and I'll plan on Pismo on the 30th. Any particular location at Pismo to meet? If not, I'll just look for the Dakotas with the SWEET bumpers. One other question...any ideas on where to get one of those flag things? I read that they are required on the dunes.

Not required at Pismo for the trucks. It is a pretty large area. With lots of open space.

As far as Hollister goes anyone else able to go out this weekend?

I could go either morning Saturday or Sunday. I like to go fisrt thing so I still have the rest of the day to get my stuff around the house done.
They open at 8am and it costs $4.00. We stay til about 11-12 depending on how much fun we have.

DJ what do you think Bud?

Let me know if you want to go this weekend.

Fourxfore,

I am intersted in some Pismo driving (I live in San Luis Obispo). However, I will be out of town that weekend (Know any good 4wd camping trails in the Huntington Lake Area?)

My question - Just how hard is the Pismo sand/salt on your truck, mechanically and aestetically? I used to ride a dirst bike there 20 years ago and remeber it as pretty hard on my bike.

Dakinslo, I go out to the Pismo Dunes just about every week(i live in SLO too), as long as you wash your undercarriage out the next day with a hose and try and get most the sand and salt off, you'll be fine, all my friends go out with me in their 4X4s and none of us have ever had trouble, at least not the kind a tow-strap can't get us out of;)

The easiest place to meet at the dunes is at the creek crossing, but the creek is dried up right now...so it's kinda hard to find, other than that, i'm still in, and will see you guys on the 30th.

Dakinslo...with Dakota are you? I'm the 2002 Graphite SXT 4X4 that's always drivin around, you'll probably see me around if you look. What color and year is your truck...i've seen most of the ones around SLO.

Anyways...see you guys on the 30th!

Dan, welcome to the west side! I'm always ready for an off-road trip. Like I told FXF, this weekend (6/22, 6/23) was going to be new brake pads, air filter recharge, wash, wax, and detail -- but that can wait. In fact, I should get it really dirty first. How does this Saturday morning sound for Hollister? Where exactly are you staying? Email FXF or myself and we can get you more info.

Dakinslo, the sand and salt will cause problems over time if you don't take care your truck. No matter if I'm camping on the beach or not, my truck gets a quick wash everyday that I'm down (engine bay and underside included). It may seem like an overkill, but I've had it at the beach every couple of months for the past two years and no sign of rust. And don't spend time driving through the waves like they do in car commercials -- that'll ruin things quick.

Dan,

I am pretty anal about keeping my truck clean. My wife thinks I go to Hollister to play in the mud just to clean afterwards. I power wash underneath and all over pretty well. Do not mess with the engine comp to much with the power washer but I do hose it down and wipe it clean from time to time.
I think all of us who go out muddin should own a power washer. Mine is gas and about 2750psi. Great for around the house too. After muddin I pull up on the lawn and usually end up with a pretty good pile of mud when done. I rake the mud up and hose what's left into the lawn.
Most who see my truck for the first time don't think I go off road at all then I show them the picture or the splash of mud I have in the engine area for proof.

I do not really know any other areas to go off road in the area you mentioned.

Wow! DJ you started something here. 2 weekends of off road fun! And I get to play golf on Tuesday. This will be a great week ahead!

If you guys didn't get it, or if anyone else out there is coming down, we'll plan to meet Sunday at 11:00 on the beach at the entrance to sand HWY. IF you need directions, you can check out the local area map or Off Highway Vehicle map on the State Parks website.
