Knobby, your truck looks great! I like the before and after photo on your website - it really demonstrates the change well. I know you probably haven't put many miles on since it's completion, but, what have you noticed regarding the way it rides?

I'd send truckinsuspension a copy of the bill from Mike's and see if they'll pay for it. Over all not too bad, would have been nice if you could have installed it yourself and saved the $835.

How do you like the MTR's?

It does look more like 5-6" of lift rather than just 4.5". How is the rear lifted?

Ride.. Not bad abit stiffer. It was making a odd resonating clunking noise from the back end. But I think I figured that out (the wire that's used to hold the spare tire was loose) I haven't driven since I switched that. The only other thing is I can actually feel the steering linkage turn. It's not rubbing on anything but I can feel it.
The tires rub on the Upper Bump Stop Bracket. So I need a differen't back spacing But I'm just not going to crank the tires to far for the time being.
The tires aren't loud at all on the road. I haven't taken them Off-Road yet because I don't have the plastic water/mud shields in my front wheel wells I need to do that this afternoon.

The brake cables are stretched when my truck was up getting it's new tires put on. I'm going to get some slightly 1" longer brake cables in the braided steel variety.

Money.. Well I have $1603 credited back on my credit card. As long as that stays.. I'm not going to say anything else. I think $1400 is fair for the lift & tires.

MTR's handle very good on the road I'm actually quite impressed.

I'm going to get the video camera (it takes higher quality pics) and upload those probably on Friday after I can give the truck a good bath.

If you guys haven't seen the MT/R's up close.. OMG!!! they are AWSOME talk about agressive tread.

End result looks good, Knobby ... was it worth the headache (and heartache)?

With 4.5" of lift I expected there to be a bit more tire clearance in the wheelwell. They look tighter than I thoguht they would. Are you experiencing your rubbing while driving forward? or just in reverse?

Knobby, Glad you're rolling again. Here is a way to put into perspective how long your truck was down. Look at the before and after pics on your site... Notice the bush between the camera and the truck. (I know, I should be so stunned by the beauty of his ride not to notice anything but the vechicle) I wish I could get my bush to grow that fast... I mean, er uhh nevermind ;-)

Yea both going forwards and backwards.. I still don't understand why it would rub worse going backwards but oh well. Once I get some 4.5" backspacing I should be just fine. I'm working on a local GroupBuy threw the Dealer I got my tires from looks like he has better prices then TireRack. Hopefully I'll be able to scrape up the extra $$. I don't know what wheels I want to go with yet anyway.

Alright... my turn this time! I HATE YOU Knobbyman! DAMN... ;-)

That amount of lift looks great! I love the look of the truck without the frame showing, I wish I had that option available to me. I'm also glad to hear that you got some money back!! 3K for lift and tires AND labor isn't bad at all... but 1600 bones back is AWESOME. Still not worth the headache I'm sure, but at least you have a great ride and TONS of experience now!?!

You'll have to give us all an update on the handling and "bugs" that you have from the lift. You have been an inspiration to us all, man!

Actually after I took it to Mikes.. I kept my nose out of it. They fabbed a skid plate for my Front Diff and Fabbed some support bars (I'll have more pictures of the underside tomorrow) Also had to cut my exhaust just after the last bracket because the leafs would have been in the way. The hardest thing which was the problem I thought was going to be the hardest *pats self on back* heh I watched him do it. Quite interesting the guy could eyeball EVERYTHING it was a perfect fit and he didn't measure anything CRAZY what experience can do for you.

Bjlindsey the crap hanging out.. I'm guessing you mean the Torsion Bar hangers.. I do you can't see it because of the bush I'll get a better picture later. The nerf bars should cover it up nicelly though. Also the credit is from them yes.

BTW.. the popular question..

Q. If You had to do it over again.. Would you go with a Body Lift or this Suspension lift?

A. I'd go with the Body Lift.
Piece of mind knowing that it's been tested and there are people who have incountered the problems before and know how to get around them. Also What a pain it was to do. One weekend of down time vs. 2 months? $3,000 vs $200

Body lift would be my choice if I had to do it all over again. I haven't measured my new ground clearance but I will this afternoon.

Ok, now it's my turn...I HATE U KNOBBY! That truck looks sooooo dang nice...i'm green with envy. I'm so bitter right now...it's not even funny.

But I do have one question for you, now that it's all over with...the lift is done and it looks killer...do we ever deal with truckin suspensions again? Should we trust a kit from them now that they know what it takes to make one work...or do we just wait for a Rancho lift in the future? I am dieing to get a suspension lift since most the stuff i do requires more ground clearence for the frame, therefore a body lift will only really give the frame 1 inch more clearance with 33's, and i need something like 4-5 inches for rock crawling, but i want my moneys worth, not a headache. Oh, and what shocks did you throw on that bad boy?

If your going rock crawling.. Get a Jeep. The Dakotas are to long and they don't have the suspension travel and don't forget about the Torsion bars hanging way down. I have cheep shocks on it right now and it rides rough.. Once I get some $$ back I'll be getting some Rancho 9000's.

The front suspension is the same the kit just used brackets to lift everthing up. It's like a body lift but instead of using the body mounts it's on the tie-rod ends, differential, and control arms.

I would NOT do business with Truckin-Suspension everyone I've talked to that has delt with them in every situation even there "shops" have had problems with them. The only reason my truck is running right now is because of Mikes Off-Road.. Truckin Suspension even faxed them the WRONG instructions.. Don't believe me? Call Mikes..

Brakes should really be a problem because they are quite loose when the truck has all 4 on the ground. But when it's lifted it gets tight.

Anyway YES!! there actually are cobwebs and quite a bit of grime.. Friday I'm detailing my truck and taking some GOOD pictures.. So stay check back later that evening.

Knobbster,
Your truck is a thing of beauty! ; ) Keep us posted, like you have been, on how it's holding up. I guess I'll be waiting for Rancho or someone to come out with a lift.

Also, there's a guy out here in Redmond, WA that has a 6" or so lift with boggers on his supposedly 2002 Durango. Don't they have the same rack n' pinion issues our 2000+ daks have? I better go talk to him today. ;)

Thanks again, Knobbster, for keeping us in the loop throughout the hectic months!
