Since there are always questions on tire size here are some answers. This is what I have found first hand.

Gen III Dakotas

Stock
32x11.50 on 15x7 fact rims, no rubbing.
32x11.50 on 15x8 fact rims, minor rubbing.
275x70x16 on fact 16x8 rims, extremely minor rubbing.

3 inch lift
32x12.50 on 15x8 rims, no rubbing.
33x12.50 on 15x8 rims, extremely minor rubbing.

Of course any sizes smaller than these will fit as well.

How wide do the 275x70x16 on the 16x8 rims look?
do they compare to the 32x11.50 ? and what exactly is minor rubbing? Full lock setting still, full lock with minor flex, or full lock in reverse? just trying to make my decision.

Newbie, they are very close to a 32x11.50. Check with Blizzard. He had them on his truck. I believe they only rubbed at full turn in reverse and it was very little.

Doch, who you callin a moron!? I resemble that remark! JK.

Extremely minor rubbing = just enough for you to barely here it but not enough to actually do any damage.

I forgot one thing.

305x70x16 on 16x8 rims will also fit with a 3 inch lift.

You had the 32x11.50x16 on 16x8 rims?
what tire was this? I am haveing a little trouble finding tires that i like in that size.
In the past i have run dunlop radial rovers, They have a very wide stance for their sizes ( all sizes) they have good road maners and no more 4wheelin' that i do they work very well. Also they wear good. but i am up for suggestions I have about 10k miles to go before a new set but i need to decide soon ( tight budget, Have to buy one at the time) so any help would be appreciated.
Oh and what kind of power loss is expected? very noticable? I have a 3.55 gears

The LT275/70R16 tires really measure 31.16" tall and are 10.83" wide. They were BFG A/T tires.

There is a slick little application on www.dakota-truck.net (DML home page) that you can convert metric sizes to standard sizes.

The only time I ever noticed any rubbing was when I aired down in the sand (to about 8 psi). Of course the tires balloon out quite a bit and squat when you do that.

Blizzard, how did you keep the tires on the rims @8psi? I had 33x14.50 Mickeys on 15x10 rims on a ranger. And anything under 15psi (in mud) i was breaking out the spare. Oh and thanks for the help.

I never had any problems breaking the bead. I even ran 7 psi in my Mickey's the last time I was on the dunes, didn't have any problems.

No high speed turns, only hammer it on a straight line ... I was nervous airing down that much, but took the advice of guys who had been in the sand a lot more than me! If I'd run 15 psi I doubt I'd even made it out to the beach and I KNOW I wouldn't have made test hill! :o)

I have ran 4-5 PSI on my 33x12.5's on my TJ, but wouldn't go below probably 7 or 8 on the dakota. I let them down to 9lbs on the dakota the other day and the tires werent really baggin that bad, but the sand is a little harder this time of year, so I dont have to air down as much. On the dalota I try to run a little more air pressure in the front then the rear, when off roading.
