Subject: Should I lift?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 1991 dakota regular cab/long bed. I am considering a 3" or 4" suspension lift. Are there any disadvantages to lifting the truck? I don't know antying about lifts. Just looking for a little advise. Thanks in advance.

Peace.

Brian

Why would you even want a lift?

If you are doing just for the look (which I would assume is the case based on the nature of your post), I would say no. Lifts for looks are stupid. They cost alot, reduce your safety on the road, and lower vehicle performance on the road.

If you are looking for offroad ability, I would say yes.

O.K. I'm going to try one more time. It is a 1991 V-6 4x4. I'm looking for a little more off-road capability. Take the truck to Baja hunting for surf. That is the last place I want to be stuck on a washed out road. Not planning on taking the rig to Moab or anything. I guess I just want to know if there are any disadvantages to a lift on this particular year dakota. Any well known problems? I know that I sound ingnorant, but I just don't know.
Thanks duh and huh for all the useful advice. I'll cherish it. There is a difference between ignorance and stupidity. Look it up.
Again, thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.

Peace.

Lift pros -
More ground clearance
room for bigger tires (again for more clearance)

Lift Cons -
Lifts cost alot
Lifts reduce your safety on the road (Higher center of gravity easier to rollover)
Lifts lower vehicle performance on the road (bigger tires reduce braking performance, increase gas consumption, loss of power, higher rate of wear on drivetrain, and lowers cornering performance.)
