I am about out of ideas. I'm now frustrated!
Went out Friday to the drag strip and the best I could do is 14.99!

This just isn't right......

The best part is, I raced guy with a SS/T ram that just installed a Powerdyne 6#'er with a jet chip and gibson headers. We ran neck to neck all the way down.

It just isn't right....

Hmmm something isn't right. Sounds like a heatsoaked supercharger. Not that I have any experience but installing a blow off valve with a 9lb pulley I have heard works well. Was it hot and or humid and what elivation were you running at. You should be faster as mine will run a 14.9 in close to 80° weather. That is measured with a G-Tech though.

It was 80deg at about 70feet altitude humiduty was about 20%. Just a thought... do you think the stock PCM is holding it back? I took a reading with the laptop and it showed 168F at one time. Is this bad? hehe

What was 168°? If it was coolant temp that is good. If it is IAT that is not good. Where did you locate the IAT to? Like I say it should be better. My times are at 3000 feet.

Sorry it was the IAT temp. And I relocated it in the intake tube to the S/C. I think the headers are putting out too much heat. My fuel temp is high aswell.

What do you think of heat wrapping the headers?

Not a good idea on the street I have seen where a little moisture gets into the wrap causing metal fatigue resulting in a blown header. Can you make it so it can draw cooler air? I wish Bernd was in on this one he knows alot more about supercharging than I do.

Why don't you get an IAT adjuster,They have been out of stock but I'm sure Bernd could loan you one or help you rig one up. At least try it. You may be able to put a resistor inline.

Cut the wire going to the IAT and use a quick connector to put it back together. Make a 1/4 mile run at the track or G-Tech.
Pull the quick connector off and using 2 quick connects install a small piece of wire with a resistor soldered in (Bernd should be able to suggest a resistor to drop the temp about 40 degrees). Run the truck again and see what happens.
That will tell you if its the timing being pulled out because of the IAT.

Another suggestion.
This may be nuts but relocate the IAT sensor in front of the blower, right at the flter so the compressor heat doesn't throw it off. Then back out timing manually with an aftermarket ignition to keep it from pinging.

Part of the problem I think is the fact that the supercharger is getting heat soaked but I am not 100% sure.

Ok, here is some numbers at the 1/4 mile

IAT - 102F
Spark Adv - 28.0deg
TPS - 61%
RPM - 4380
Load - 70%
MPH - 89
ECT - 208

Why is the spark advance not up around 40deg?
As soon as I back out of the throttle it jumped to 40deg. I also seen 40deg advance @150F IAT just messing around. I'm lost.

I thought of that too. I have a bypass valve on it. I did notice a big difference when I installed that 2months ago. The charger is cooler and I hit a full 6PSI at 3500RPM

Because 40 ° is only good for part throttle if I remember correct 28 does sound a little low though. I think my '79 1/2 ton is set for 36. It has been so long since I played with timing that I am having troubles remembering.

The spark advance fluxuates through out the power curve? I thought that WOT it should max out on the advance.

I guess I still think "Old school" hehehe

At WOT it should pretty much climb up to the max point but I am kinda old school there. More spark advance is needed for part throttle because of the lower combustion chamber pressure.

Yup! Maybe I have a BINGO!

So next question: Ya think I might have a bad TPS? It's bin smooth otherwise. I went out and hooked up with key on and if I mash hard I can get 73%.

I guess I need to get help to see if the butterflys are wide open.......

Thanks CW

Yes get a helper and see if the throttle blades are standing on end at WOT. If the TV cable is over adjusted it can inhibit the throttle opening.

OK I hooked up the laptop then I took reedings....
TPS closed = 7%
TPS WOT = 78%
TV Disconnected = Same no change
closed or WOT.

I'm not thinking it's the TPS because it's values are still smooth on either end of the spectrum.

Can the IAT really make that much difference?

I wouldn't think so but I have never played with supercharged applications. Are you actualy getting WOT with the throttle blades? I mean looking at them while someone stands on the thottle.

that is the same thing that drtswinger was experiencing. try getting some dryer hose and funneling the cold air to the air filter.
