Subject: Bigger bump stops with 3" arms?
IP: Logged

Message:
i am having a big rubbing problem. i have 3" control arms on my 99 R/T and i'm running the stock R/T rims/tires. my tires constantly rub my fender flairs when i hit bumps. i put new/bigger bump stops that i bought from autozone on it and it still rubs. should u put washers in between each bump stop and where the screw goes in (to make it another inch shorter)? Because right now theres more room between my bump stop and the frame then the tire and the fender flair. thanks,
-Matt

So you are droped 4" from a stock dakota right? What you can do is at the peak of the tire, cut out a bit of the fender flare and take a hammer to the inner fender lip. I did it on my truck with bigger bump stops and it worked great. I have a 02 Quad Cab w/ 3/5 and stock 29" tall tires. But fix it soon because it will tear up the sidewall on your tires.

well, i looked at where i could pound the fender upward but i decided not to do it because it doesnt look like it'll do much good. i put bigger bump stops on and put some washers under them to make sick up higher and i still got rubbing!! is there supposed to be less travel between the bump stop and the frame or my tire and fender flair? they are about equal now.

also, i was thinking about getting 20" rims sooon. would they rub even more? i was going to get a very low profile tire - 255/35/20 on these 20's. thanks

It doesnt seem like much but you probly dont need that much. It takes away about 1/4" because you cut out the fender flare and then you bend that lip up and it moves it out of the way. It worked on my truck. I did it before i put bigger bump stops and it dramaticly reduced my rubbing. Thats up to you but look where the tire goes up and is hitting, because if it is where mine was (16 tire and wheel combo)..... and it moved that lip out of the way and by cuttin the fender flare and hamering the lip on the inside it easily gave me another 3/4 - 1" of tire movement, thats alot...
