Just got my V8 TB and plan on working on cutting down the horns and a home port this weekend.

2 questions:

First - what the heck is the purposes of those big ass horns anyway?
Second - Grind the down the lip (forget what it's called) above the butterfies or not?

1. I can't really tell you the purpose of the air horns.

2. That would be the Torque step.

Now for a little useful advise, install your V8 TB as it is and make sure your truck runs good, and enjoy the difference that it will make. Then some rainy or cold day you have nothing else to do better and you still want to cut up your TB, pop it off (only takes about 15 mins) and get the Dremel out, BUT if you cut into the wrong place you will trash your TB.

I bought my TB new and ran it for 10k miles before I decided to port it, porting does make some difference but not as much as just adding the V8 TB itself.

take it to a friend that works in a machine shop, guys with dremels are like women and cheap tires sooner or later they all lead to trouble.

It is really not hard at all. Just port the lip off before the throttle blade and you will be fine. Leave the throttle blade in place to make sure of that.

2001 4.7 5sp 3.92 LSD
Ported 68mm TB, IAT adjuster, 3" flowmaster cat back, TPS @ .76V, 4" Z-tube, Roadmaster active suspention, Removed Third cat, Electric fan Convertion, HO cams, Robert shaw 180 therm, HO intake manifold.
