I just got my oil changed in the 4.7L QC. The tech. said that it needed 6 qts instead of 5 since it was Mobil 1. Is this true?? Thanks for the help

Dak1210,

It was not because it was MOBIL1 that you needed 6 qts, it was because you have the 4.7L. I have the 4.7L and about fell out when I read the owners book on oil volume. YEP 6 qts.

I used to have a little, short wheelbase Mitsubishi Montero with a 2.5L 4 banger in it, and it took 6 quarts...couldn't believe it the first time that I changed the oil in it.

Yep the 4.7 take 6 qts... I just had my 1st oil change and went with Mobil 1 too. Talk about sticker shock - it's like $30 in oil alone not to mention labor and a filter :o I'm too lazy to do it myself, plus it's too hot in FL to go messing around under my truck :p

How often are all of you changing your EXXON ... I'm sorry Mobil1 oil?
I switched from Mobil1 to AMSOIL many years ago and I will never switch back.
The fact that Mobil1 is "factory fill" in so many performance vehicles does not impress me. Exxon/Mobil was and still is the low bidder on synthetic "factory fills" for the big three automakers; In fact I bet Mobil1 is cutting them a real good deal just to be able to put there little Mobil1 stickers under the hood.
Request free info on AMSOIL and let yourself be the judge.

Hello,

Do you even know where your owners manual is?

Have you bothered to actually open the cover?

Have you read the section on the 4.7?

Then, for whatever reason you're not changing the oil and filter yourself, and the tech only puts 5 quarts in, you'll know it's a quart low.

Wait a minute, have you ever checked your oil?

Ever even opened the hood?

No wait, maybe he was ripping you off and trying to sell you an extra quart of expensive oil-NOT.

What a moron, posting a question like that.

While you're at it, better have the muffler bearings greased, and replace the kenouter valves.

Read your freaking owners manual, you probably raced home from the dealer also, without any break in, right?

The 4.7 has 2 OHC's, that are hollow and take oil inside. HIgher perf engines run at least a sixquart pan. This high tech engine takes 6quarts. I for one am kinda glad, more oil to keep the pressure up, even with high revs and a nice higher volume pump from the factory. I think the cams and their design have alot to do with it.

I agree, the poor sap maya not have gotten an owners manual, or can't read and has someone else type his posts, like his children, it's possible. And the service tech told him it was because he used Mobil1, thats what his question was about.
