I know of a older (88/89) 4X4 with the factory
318 in it jroc31869, so it must be do-able.

i took everything from a 1995 dakota and swapped it in

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

so i need to find a 95 and everthing will fit. do i need the front end also to let it fit or will my truck hold it without switching

a 91-96 would work to do what i did
i took everything
EVERYTHING
all but the axles and the body
the dash, tranny, t-case, everything
i got a wrecked 1995 dakota for like $300
i mounted an electric fan between the radiator and the AC unit up front
