Does anybody know if abs brakes need to "warm up" on cold days or something? I have a 98 4x4 v6 dak, and for the last week its been pretty cold in the mornings (25-35ºF). When I leave for work in the morning, the first three stop signs I come to, my brakes lock up and pulse. Just normal break pressure, and they like "grab" really hard then go back to normal. It only does it for like 10 minutes or so. I have no idea what would be causing the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's something to do with wetness/high humidity I think...my Dakota and my friend's S-10 both do that horribly after it's been sitting in the rain a while or after a really humid/dewey night. Doesn't matter if it's warm or cold outside.

So its nothing I should worry about then? And yeah, its been raining around here nonstop for like a week now so...but is there any way to fix it? Thanks alot :)

Not sure if there's any way to fix it...I sure hope so cuz it drives me nuts. It usually does it real bad when there's people around, making it look like I bout hit something and made a panic stop even though all I did was tap the brakes.

It could be the valves sticking in the abs module, this happend to a grand am I once had. Just an idea.

Sorry Homer that is not it. My truck does the same thing when it has been raining. They start to develop a thin rust layer pretty fast, and you have to wear it off.

Yep, its the rust. When you leave your driveway, ride the brake lightly for a couple hundred feet...should help wear it off and not harm your brakes at all.

thats exactly what I do calk04.... both my 98 and my 00 did the same thing, untill I started just pulling out of my drive riding the brakes... Problem solved :-)
