Here's why I think this Tornado thing doesn't work. First, the flow would have to be completely linear, as soon as you turn a corner, the effect is lost. And since the air going around a corner isn't any faster, the overall airflow isn't improved. Second, a fluid in tornado-like motion tends to force any heavier particles into the center. You'll notice that on those vacuum cleaners that create the same effect. Since this would force all the fuel into the center of your flowing air, the air/fuel mixture would be less than optimal. You actually want a little bit of turbulence in the fuel inlet point to properly mix the air and fuel.

I thought it might have been a scam, and for once I was right. Like so many others I almost fell for the ol hook line and sinker. But looking over the internet I found so many bad things said about this product, the numbers don't lie!
I really hope that others see all the bad reviews that the TORNADO has received.
I bet if they would have sold it for a much cheaper price, a lot of people might have bought it without giving it a second thought.
Thank god they are greedy people, or I would have lost my hard earned money too.

here is why I think it works. First of all when the air passes through the inlet pipe it is in a turgid state as water is when it goes from a less restricted space to a freer space. That is the key, more surface area (relative turgidity)for the fuel to combine. The vortex being the most efficient mechanism for this. The pressure that is created might also create a mini-turbo charge effect further particulating the fuel. The columbia river gorge has the same effect(that is why all the windsurfers are there). It is called the venturi effect. The river gorge curves too but still retains its turbity. go back to sleep

first problem, the tornado is advertised as a "supercharger" and its NOT one. There is no forced induction involved in the tornado. There is your first hint the whole thing is a scam. Second, everyone and their brother is trying to get more airflow through their intake, tb, intake manifold, etc. OK, well, then , why place an object there that is essentially just going to slow ariflow down and get in the way.. Also, Sport Compact Car did a Dyno of 3 cars w/ the tornado, can you guess..... YUP all 3 LOST HP. The whole thing is a rip off....

I'm not for the Tornado,BUT, the Tornado and a Spacer
are two VERY different things. The Tornado actually
makes the air spin as in a Vortex. The Spacer has
grooves machined or cast into its walls that are
suppose to either swirl the air or straighten it out
depending on manuf.

C'mon kids..TBS or Tornado. The difference is
that the spacer with the 'straightening grooves'
actually is supposed to do the right thing. It
allows the air to become denser in the thottle body not turbulent like the Torwacko. Gee now
why do they turbocharge and supercharge engines...
to get denser air? More power? Nah thats just
crazy. We know that turbochargers don't work.

Yeah, I got one of those pieces of crap. I wish i would have read this post before hand. The only reason you save gas is because the airflow is restricted, my dakota runs awful, no acceleration! I am using less gas but it did not take me long to figure out why, I'm getting less airflow and there is no power when i step on the gas. Buy cooler plugs, they will help you save gas for about $60 cheaper.

We tested this device on a chassis dyno and came up with about 14% less power? Didn't check the milage, but go figure.....less airflow and that requires less fuel per the computer. This device BLOCKS or creates parasidic drag and lowers volumetric efficiency.

One other point about "supercharging" that was mentioned. You can get performance intake systems to "supercharge", so to speak, by improving the Volumetric Efficiency (VE) of the system to the extent that the airflow is so effective that the inertia of the mass of the air flowing in the intake at a certain volume packs the intake with air at over 100% atmospheric pressure. VE can be improved with certain intakes, cams, combustion chambers, exhausts by improving flow. After all, you engine is just an air pump! There are alot of intake systems that enjoy VEs of over 100% without super/turbo charging mechanisms as we know them. A common example is a Winston Cup engine that is about 135% VE! This is how they make so much HP!

The general paper formula for hp looks like this for a typical WC engine. HP = Atmos Press X VE X cubes X peak RPM (cam related) X compression ratio / 744,000 (a constant for piston/race fuel engines) = 14.7 X 1.35VE X 358CU X 7800RPM X 10CR /744,000 = 745hp! Notice the VE over 100%.

couldn't you save fuel and flow more air by modding the MAS? i don't know what the MAS is like on a dakota but i know that this works very well for some other applications.

The best way to improve milage is to also improve the volumetric efficiency (VE) of the engine.

Additions such as low restriction exhausts including headers, tuned low pass airfilters, performance intake changes and some computer timing issues, all will improve performance AND milage.

The least expensive would be cat-back tuned exausts, tuned air filter (like K&N) and a chip changeout. I think over four years, about $800 can be recouped in fuel savings alone to pay for such changes. Makes sense to me, plus sounds better and more torque for fun!

Just read your response with absolute shock. We can disagree without resorting to insults and personal attacks, can't we? I'm only sharing honestly what we have experienced. You can intelligently and in a civilized manner state your own objections based on your experiences. This type of abusive language isn't very helpful in presenting your own empirical case. Take care and go and see your preacher on Sunday and read your Bible before expressing your views with anger. GOD LOVES YOU :) Don't make it hard for others to love you and respect you too.
