Subject: defroster vs sliding rear window
IP: Logged

Message:
I'm interested in a new quad that has a sliding rear window. But living in NJ I thought that a rear defroster would be better. (Although I can't find one with all of the other options that I'm looking for.)

1) What are your experiences with sliding rear windows? Is frost/fogging an issue?
2) Are the mirrors sufficient, so event if the rear window fogs it doesn’t matter?

Any advice would be appreciated, especially those in the cold weather climates.

Still waiting for my Quad Cab,but I ordered it without the slider and without the defroster.I want to tint the back window and if you have a defroster sometimes the tint bubbles from the defroster.I have a Ford Ranger with dark rear tint and only use the side mirrors and you get used too it.I drive a tractor-trailer and thats all you can use is the side mirriors.

I bought a '01 QC in late Dec 00. It has a rear sliding glass and dark tinted windows from the factory. I forgot if it was an option for the tinted windows or part of a package. I can't image not having the windows tinted. It's alot cooler.

Back to the rear sliding window. Big story here. I orignally ordered a CC with rear sliding window but after a week after I placed the order, my wife said the QC would be a better truck and my son would be able to ride in the back. Well you know rules in this house. QC it is. Kept everything the same but a QC. I live NJ also and went through some snow. I haven't had a problem with the rear window fogging up. When there was fogging, it was very little and I turn on the front defrost a little higher. The rear slider is not as easy in a QC vs CC. I can't reach it from the driver's seat. In a CC you could just turn around and touch the window. So I get out and open and close it. I could probably stretch to touch but I'm not very tall (5'8") As for snow building up on the rear window, The window is pretty vertical and there wasn't much snow build up. I'm glad I got the sliding window because it was cheaper and I leave it open slightly for ventillation. Good luck.

I had the same questions about whether or not to order the defroster or sliding window.
I ended up ordering the sliding window, but I had another reason to do that.

I also installed a truck topper, with a sliding window in it. Now if I buy a long 2x4x12, etc,
I can open the sliding window in the truck and the topper ,and keep the long items "mostly" inside of
the truck.

I only got my truck in February, and have not yet
had to drive in the snow yet (Southern Indiana)
