Subject: Power door lock problems.

first off '00 SLT CC, V6.....

first the passnegers side powerlock quit working, not a big deal since it's rare there is more than one person in it at a time....then it all went to hell...now the key won't unlock the door, the 'lock' will not physically move up..the only way to open the door is to pull the handle from the inside...still annoying, but barable....my parents take it to the dealer(i'm away at college) and after they pay $58(!) they say, it's the lock accuator($160+labor)....since i work at a car audio/alarm shop i order one in and figure i'll pop it in and be done with it...i'm wrong.....turns out the factory one is built into the latch itself....screw it, i'll just ditch the power locks and go manual, right...wrong...this morning i get a frantic call from my mom.."I'm stuck in your truck. i can't get the door open"...some how she thinks to roll down her (power)window and reach for the outside handle...this works...so now the only way to get in or out is to use the outside handle on the drivers side.....i don't even want to think about how potentially dangerous this could be......anyone have any idea wTF is up with these locks?.......thanks...

You're describing the exact symptoms of a bad actuator. Just break down and have the dealer do it. It should be about $170 parts *and* labor.

I am in the early stages of this i think. Yesterday i tried to open the door for my friend, but it took like 3 times before it went up. That pissed the heck out of me. Later on i kept messing with it and i noticed it did it again. Hopefully it will last until i have finished my mods.

My drivers side did this about 2 weeks ago. It would lock with the key , but when using the remote or switch , it would sound like a rabbit in a leg snare! The dealer fixed it under warranty.

Hey,
I had this problem about three months ago & all that I had to do was to take the door panel off to inspect the lock linkage, it had rusted & was having a hard time poping up. In the end a $1.00 can of WD-40 solved my problem. It can't hurt to try.

The problem I have is the same as as what Sniper had. My truck started making noises on the passenger side first for three weeks, then the driver side for one day. The driver side only opens from the inside now. Is it the switch? I have a door switch with the two window switches below it. Is the switch called the actuator? I need help before the other side won't operate!! Trying to keep from getting ripped off!

Mine is going to. Makes that terrible sound as it locks. Try to use the key to open and it wont work at times. the key switch is working. Then I tried the proceedures to stop the 10MPH auto lock it worked once then it starts auto locking again.

Sounds like this is a common problem.

It's the electric door lock actuator.. It's one piece. I sell them for $75 shipped. You can swap them yourself and save some money... Remove the door panel, unbolt the lock mechanism from the side of the door, disconnect the inside cable + push pull bar to the door-- it's a bear, but once you do one-- you'll be a pro. Takes about an hour per side-- just take your time.

I accept paypal at performanceparts@cox.net (specifiy model/year, and which door-- as the the mechanisms are different for driver/passenger side).

If you order two, I'll take off $10 ($75 each, or $140 for both sides shipped).

If you let them go, eventually you CAN be locked out of your truck -- and a slim jim ain't gonna work (I've had it happen to me... PITA)

Since November I've replaced 2 and am having to replace a third very soon. I called Dodge today and they claimed that they have never heard of such a thing. When I told them about this website they said, "we don't look at websites created by 16 year olds." I didn't call to get $, only to find out if the engineering on the part has changed since 00. I like the truck, but service after the sale and standing behind ones product is very important. I think this'll be my last Dodge product!

If this:

link
is the broken part, why can't we buy a little motor from radio shack and replace it? It also seems way off to have to pay $75 for some little plastic gears if those are the broken parts, but I can't think of a good way to replace or fix those.

I had a problem with my window switch not working. That electric panel that goes in the door panel... that has the door lock switch and the window switch... I took it out and apart. I studied the little clicker mechanisms they use to deliver electric signals. (There are two clicker things for each switch.)It works out so that if you push the window switch for 'up,' it makes the 'up' connection but also breaks the 'down' connection. I ended up bending the offending clicker piece of metal a bit with some pliers, snapping it back into place, and then reassembled the door. It worked!

Sorry if this last part is irrelevant.

it's a common problem to all chrysler / dcx products. i've had 4 new locks in my 99 intrepid and about to do one of them again

the dealers know it, 'cause the first thing they ask about is the godawfull noise that it makes on the way down.

First of all, these Gen3 Daks do not use a stand alone actuator. I custom built a tail gate latch with a $8 power door lock actuator and these not NOT used in the doors.

The actuator motor is built in to the door latch itself. My driver side one stopped working after making bad noises. I took the thing out and took it apart carefully. All the gears are either nylon or plastic. The motor housing was a little cracked so I think the main drive gear was binding. I glued it together with super glue and lubed all the gears with silicone spray. The thing has been working for two years now.

Now my passenger side just stopped working altogether. No noise warning or anything. I HATE taking the door apart!!! Grr.

My 2000 R/T has recently started blowing the 20amp door lock fuse intermittently when opening only, never blows when locking. Occurs with both the remote and the door panel switch. Went ahead and replaced both left & right latch assemblies. Now I wait! I also replaced the key lock switches inside the door panel while I was in there. Anyone have the same problems blowing the fuse?

I have a 99 DakotaCC and had the driver door lock make noise about 6 months ago, I was able to pull the actuator out and apart, very carefully and rotate the stripped gear 180 from where it was, still working. PAX door started just a week ago, tried the same trick, worked for a week, now back to making noise. Guess there is no way around it, just have to replace them
