Take the truck to a good independant alignment
place and have them check it as a 4 wheel alignment. It could be 30 or 40 dollars well spent. after that if they find what the problem is then take it to your dealer with the information. I'm thinking it might either be a rear axel prob. or a rack and pinion prob.

I have this same prob on my '01 Dakota SLT v8. I've taken it to the dealer 3 times, once it was there for a week, and it still has the same problem. For me, it will be fixed for all of an hour after I leave the dealership, then its right back to off-center steering wheel and pull to the right.
The thing that kills me is that you buy a new truck so you won't have to deal with mechanical probs, then this happens.

My truck has been in the shop 8 times for a front end pull to the right...8700 miles and 5 months old. 3 tire rotations, 2 alignments and lots of arguing...now pulls left. I have been told it is because "the truck has wide tires on it". Didn't the factory ship it with wide tires? this is not an aftermarket job. "Your tires need to be rotated" Did that, now pulls left. "it will correct itself." I don't think so. any suggestions? ---Jodi

I had that problem - went back to the dealer twice with it. Ended up switching left and right front tires and it pulled the other way. Put the spare on the pulling side and it went straight. Told the dealer and he replaced the (now) spare tire.

I have a '01 quad cab. Been to the dealer 3 times for alignment. I just thought the mechanics there were not doing well enough. It's terrible for all of us. I have lots of problems with my drivetrain system also. What the heck happened to dodge quality control?

I also have the problem of the truck pulling to the right. I noticed it the day i drove it and told the salesman, he told me it was supposed too LOL anyway....i played with the tire pressures and it seemed to be better but after a few 100 miles it pulls back to the right. The problem is with the rack and pinion, BTW i have a 2000 4.7 CC multi speed with 17k miles and that is the only problem i have with it, i guess i should be happy! laters

I have 1998 Dakota Clubcab 2 wheel v8. 360 is not an rt, but i have made it one, anyways i put the factory 17 inch wheels on it and ever since it has been having some minor steering problems. I know a fair amount about automotive repair, and it seems as though the rack and pinion is loose, I am going to take back to dealership, as i have extended warranty that should cover the rack. It is weird though you wouold think it is the same rack as what is in the Rt trucks, anyone know if there is a difference?

Mine pulled to the right since new. Had it aligned at the dealer. Guy told me it was out 3 degrees. It's better now but still pulls a bit to the right. I have noticed it has a lot to do with the pitch in the road. If I'm on a flat surface such as a large parking lot it goes straight. I pulled to the left lane of a 2 lane road and it pulls left. Anyone else have this experience?

I have noticed the same thing. My 98 always seems to have a slight pull to it, but it is usually the tilt of the road since it varies depending on what lane i am in on the hwy.

98 sport 3.9...i brought mine into an independent garage to see what they would do about my uneven tire wear on my left front and they changed the alignment...there waz nothing wrong with the alignment!...it drove straight until i took it to the garage and now it pulls left bad...these are new tires or else i wouldnt care about the way they were wearing but it can get frustrating...

My 2000 Dakota (22K miles) was pulling to right. The dealer said one upper ball joint was worn (covered under warranty) and the front end needed alignment which I had to pay for. He claimed the ball joints have nothing to do with alignment. I plan on fighting this one. Based on all the comments, I think a recall to replace ball joints with a better design is in order since they wear fast and affect steering functions that could lead to accidents.

Mine pulls to the left if I brake really hard. I took it to the alignment shop and they said it was deadon. I think that the brake lines are either weak or they are longer on one side of the truck causing the other side to be stronger. Does that sound possible? I only have 3500 miles, could the brakes or rotor be bad already?

Hey Quad man, my Dakota pulled to the right, so I pulled the tires off, and looked at my calipers and rotors, and sure enough one of my calipers was bad, this was at approximately 10,000 miles. Anyways, if it is pulling under braking conditions, then most likely it is your brakes, take it back to dealership and MAKE them fix, the only thing the warranty doesnt cover, on the front end, is brake pads. Dont let them charge you to fix, unless you actually need new brake pads, then just make them fix your caliper, and/or rotor. hope this helps

My '01 QC pulled all over the place when new. Brought it to a high-end alignment shop that does mostly sports cars, and they found the front way out. Don't remember the degrees, but bad. Once in awhile, it starts pulling a bit, and sure enough,l the tire pressure is off. Unless I use a good gauge and have them spot on, it pulls. When pressures are right, it is straight as an arrow, and now almost year old. I got the dealer to pay for the alignment when I showed them the printout of how far out it was after they "prep'd" the car for delivery. They were embarassed.

Quadmman - trust Danny - this sounds like a brake problem and should not be due to the length of the lines.

My 99/5.2L/4x4 has about 74000 and it has always pulled to the right but had progressivly gotten worse. Long story short I had an alignment two weeks ago at Pep Boys and it still pulled and after reading tonz of post about ball joints on this web site I ordered up me some Moogs and I replaced them 3 days ago. And waaaaaaaa laaaaaa the truck goes perfectly straight. I cut off the old boot from the chrysler ball joints just for kicks and dirt just poured out of those ball joints and not a lick of lubricant. So much for sealed life long ball joints. Since the new Moogs have grease fittings I won't be having this problem any longer. This also curred that hideous popping noise when turn left or right and going over speed bumps. I posted some pics if you guys want to replace yours. I ordered the upper ball joints from www.rockauto.com $43 bucks each.
