Yes, We had a 2004 dakota. We are in the process of the Federal Lemon Law as we speak. We purchased it new and within the first month the transmission broke. It has been in for the tranny approx. 5 times, the front end shaking 3-5x's, the tranny has leaked every since they fixed it the first time. The windows sound like a jack in the box when rolling up or down, we noticed when we rotated the tires the word "BAD" written on the inside of one. That blew while my husband and 6 year old daughter were driving down the road at approx. 45 MPH. If you have any other q's for me I would be happy to answer them. I am not trashing dodge I have PROOF of everything I have said and will say. Not one to talk without the back up.

I have an 04 Dak Club Cab 2X4 and have had zero problems with it so far. (Knock on wood) She's at almost 50,000km and still pulling strong. I read this website all the time with the horror stories such as Candice and grit my teeth and think man, I'm glad mine is alright. I sometimes think that these problems for the most part are limited to Gen 1, 2 and early 3 versions of the truck and think hopefully they've fixed these problems by now on the 04 but judging by the horror stories about the actual dealers, probably not. I don't know if Candice's experiences with her truck are a result of the actual build of her truck or because her dealer screwed her over and maybe sold her a truck they had replaced things on or messed around with somehow. All I know is mine is doing okay. And I love the hell out of her. She's way more reliable then my girlfriend. LOL!!

Dune, You are very lucky. I wish it was something minor as a result of the actual build of my truck or because my dealer screwed me over and maybe sold me a truck they had replaced things on or messed around with somehow. This is not the case. My truck had 3 miles on it when I pulled off the lot. This was purchased new. I actually trust putting my kids in my KIA more than I trusted putting them in our Dakota... I know that doesn't sound very good for Dodge. I actually owned a 95 and bought it new with I believe 12 miles on it and the only thing I had to replace was the u joint. It ran GREAT!!!! This is why I went with another Dodge. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

Yes, I feel your pain. I paid enough for my truck and got it new off the lot. I don't blame you at all for being so mad! Hell if my truck had as many problems as yours I'd make them take it back too! If it's still under warranty and given you that many problems to date they should take it back. It's obviously got problems and God knows the Dodge mechanics don't know a hell of a lot about their trucks. Good luck!

I bought my '04 Dakota CC 4.7L CC 4X4 on 01/10/05. It was a left over '04 and I got a good deal on it. So far, the only problem I've had with it is the drivers power seat track had to be replaced because it squeaked badly.

I'm a part time farmer, so I've taken my truck off road into the fields, towed wagons with 200 bushels of soybeans (12k lbs!), livestock trailers, etc, without a problem so far. I've got 19k on it so far and really love the truck. I only wish I had a LSD for better traction, but I will correct that in time.

I'm sorry to hear that Candice got a bad one. And it angers me to see that Dodge would deliberately put a bad tire on any vehicle (now there's a lawsuit!) My truck reminds me that Dodge can build a good vehicle if they really want to. So far I've owned 3 Dakotas and they have been good trucks. Good luck on getting your truck replaced, hopefully your replacement will be much better.

Molten, I am very happy that you are not going through even hlf of what I am. Chrysler refuses to take the truck back and replace it. We have since given the truck back. We couldn't see spending 412.00 a month for something not safe and reliable. The truck was still under warranty. We had purchased the extended warranty as well. We have gone to mediation and that was a waste of time. Chrysler's attorney thought I was stupid or something, he tried to settle for 3500.00. I still owe over 8000.00 after the resale of the truck. I told me attorney, I want to go to trial. He agreed and that is where we are heading now. I should hear something after the new year. I will keep you posted and let you know how things are going. If anyone know someone that IS having problems with their tuck please have them e-mail me CandiceT102298@aol.com. I will let you know this. When the say a rep has to come and check your truck...be prepared...he will say it is normal. Everything that goes wrong with the truck....ITS NORMAL!!!! I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!

I too am not happy with my 04 v8 quad cab. Bought it new summer of 04. Within the year had the following problems: Steering makes a grinding noise when turned to the left. The dealer replaced the steering column and ps pump (still not resolved), Brakes squeel when warm, dealer replaced all four rotors and pads (still not resolved), Rear sliding window lost the rubber weather stripping...dealer had to replace the whole window. I occasionally hear a thump from under the truck when put in drive. Almost sounds like someone takes a hammer and hits the underside... When it rains the front suspension creeks...tired of bringing it back to the dealer. Currently only 17 k miles.

Sorry to hear so many of you got real lemons or semi-lemons.
My '04 SXT Sport Quad 4x4 now has 35,000 miles on her I replaced all 4 rotors and brake pads @ 18,000 I bought what I wanted dealer installed free of charge plus waived all charges for the 18,000 mile factory recommended service.
My only peeve with this truck is the tire noise as the stock Goodyear RT's are about 2/3 worn and on the highway it sounds like I'm running over a gravel road...
Darthier there was a recall on ball joints I can't remember if '04's were covered but you can check here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/

I have an 04 4.7 V8, Club cab , 4x4, slt sport. It has been good for the year and a half that i have owned it. the only problem that came up in that period was the clock spring for the drivers side airbag. This week, i had the Lh cv axle shatter the slip yoke and then two days later the transmission piled up. Right now the dealer dosent know what is wrong with the trans, but it came up with seven transmission codes in the computer. three for pressure switches, two for gear 1 and 3 incorrect ratio's , and one for the control moduale. all in all i have 39000 kilometers on the truck and still love the thing.

I've got 36,000 on mine and no real problems yet. One concern is that I had my rear differntial fluid replace by the dealership and it started to leak. So I just did it again myslef--no leaks. And also I've gone through 3 dome lights.

Well, Where do I start. I have been through all of the above, dealership, area rep, etc. Nothing there. We were so fed up that we trusted our children (one is 7yrs. and the other 18 months.) in my Kia rather than the Dodge. We now have an attorney and he has been working on it. We went to mediation and Chrysler gave us and insult of $4000.00. We told them we didn't want anything more than to be in the position we were in before the truck. Let's see, we gave the truck back and now owe $8000.00. that doesn't include all of the payments, our trade in, time without the truck because of it in the shop, and the list goes on. I will keep you up to date as soon as I hear something. Thanks for asking. Sad when a stranger cares more than the dealership where we purchased it.

I'm kinda new to this so please bear with me! All of this bad stuff I have read about the Dakota is true. Terrible front ends, horrible front brakes, cheap transmissions and AWFUL dealer support. With that said, I own an 04 Quad Cab 4.7 w/5spd manual trans. I love it!! I would never have thought about buying a Dodge (really wanted a Tacoma...little pricy), but I found mine on a Ford lot and stole it from them due to the manual tranny. Mine has a power drivers seat, heated mirrors, and, the best part, limited slip differential. The LSD is worth every penny. Hardly need to use the 4x4. My brakes started to pulsate at 34,000 miles and finally will replace them at 40,000. So far, this is the only problem I've had. I bought it with 20,000 on the clock so I'm not sure if this will be the first or second brake job. Mine came with four-wheel discs all the way around.
The real problem is the situation that Candice is going through. When you spend $26,000 plus on a truck, it damn well better be put together right. Dodge is notorious for building crap, but the Dakota fills a vital nitch for those that want v-8 power in a smaller size.
Candice, I wish you the best and please STICK TO YOUR GUNS!!

Thank you Jsn, I am not budging on my point. I feel this could have all been handled at the dealer level. They pushed the point now I will not accept anything less than the position I was in before this nightmare. I have spoken to my attorney a couple of days ago and was told we would have a trial date end of July, first of August. I will keep you all updated and let you know the finial result
