Subject: 6.5 midbass/subs for rear channel in cc?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have been thinking of replaceing my rear 6 3/4 inch speakers with a set of 6.5 inch midbasses or a set of 6.5inch subs.

I would like to remain free air if possible but am worried that if a midbass is free air I will get alot of vibrations in the body panels. If I get a set of those foam baffles will it direct some more of the sound waves outward?

also for the rockfords I would need an enclosure. how would I get one back there? there is alot of space behind those panels but I would like to avoid kutting metal if possible.

Conig-
Too many people waste money on rear treble/mid speakers, which f's up the imaging. I'm glad you have chosen a different path. I have a durango, so I don't know what kind of space you have to work with. I would have to say that you should try to get a sealed enclosre, or if you feel daring a small ported. I don't know what you have in mind for speaks, but I have heard a lot about digital design (DD6.5), I think that it is what they are called. A good way that I have heard to make a sealed enclosure is to buy the foam baffles and put fiberglass resin on the outside to make them air tight.
Check out www.caraudioforum.com and search for good 6.5" subs(small box) and enclosures. Personaly, I feel that Rockford Fosgate is what people who are sheep/teenagers buy. Give it some research and if it still is what you like/want go for it.

Good luck,
Nate

When I put all bass to the rear and no treble it sounds like crap. All you hear is bass very definite out of the rear and the rest up front of course.
Sounds much better when I put more and a amplified bass w/ the treble in the rear and remove some bass from the front. Is it just me???

Sounds more like I am actually sitting in the music.

Thanks,
Jeff

I already got 2 extant x series 12's back there with an alpine 1507. and boston acoustics up front and an alpine amp on my mids and highs.

I was looking at audiobahn's but they have a 3 ohm impedence and I don't think my 4ch amp can go that low or 1ohm if wired in parralel. I agree with your statement about rockford, but there the only ones I know that make small subs. jl used to but I don't think they do anymore.

I had the same idea about the baffles they have 0.39cf of air space without a driver in there so they should be alright.

Hey Focal makes a small sub that would fit in that spot. I have the componet mid in my, and it rattles a little now, so I would try some good sound deadning stuff. I also like the tweeters in back, I use the mids for bass and get really cool almost 5.1 kind of sound with the imaging.

Later,

Andrew
