Hey, right now i have the clarion 1693 compenent system in my 98 reg cab. The tweeds are mounted up on my A pillar. The mid range speaker has decided to blow and now im in the market for new speakers. Has anyone used Alpine SWR 176A speakers at all? they sound sweet, but im not sure if they will fit, since they are a deep speaker. Or, what component speaker system would people recommend right now?? What after market speakers have you used for the front door speakers??? I have my clarions hooked up to an orion cobalt 200.4 series amp as well. Im looking for a nice highend reasonably priced very good quality speaker. Thanks for any ideas.

I have the Focal 165k2's in my doors and they are great. I was worried after I bought them that the depth was going to be to deep, but they fit fine. I would check out e-bay, for great deals, I got mine for $300 if that is what you are looking to spend. Hope that helps,

later,

Andrew

I was also looking at the Alpine SPR-176A's...I agree they do sound sweet...the mounting depth on them is only 2 3/4" I'm not sure about the 98 but with the 97 you have 5 7/16" to work with depth wise....but the thing I was concerned about was the mounting HEIGHT...like how far above the mounting platform it sticks...because you only have 1 inch of space in the front door panels to work

You can trim the backside of the door panel so the speaker can stick out of the door farther.

I went and took another listen at the local car audio shop and decided they were good enough for me...so I cam home and took a look at the online spec sheet and the height is only 3/8 of an inch so there is plenty of room to clear these puppies...so I went ahead and ordered myself a set from onlinecarstereo.com...well see how good they really sound!

ok...got the speakers today...I don't have my amp for them yet so I can't install them...but I couldn't wait to hear them so I hooked them up to my home stereo...and I was amazed by the sound they produced when I popped some Yanni in the cd player...the only problem I might run into is with the tweeters...where the heck can I put them...I want to mount them to the sail panels, but on the driver's side the stupid mirror control thing puts a huge hump right in the middle of it so it wouldn't work there...I thought about the pillars by the windsheild but they wouldn't sit flat there either and there isn't enough space behind them to mount it I don't think...so we'll see! any suggestions with that would help too!

Sweet, hook them up soon, so you can tell me if it worked and how they sound. What amp are you going to use?? i have my clarion tweeders in my pillars right now. They sit almost flat, barely anything off. It is not noticable. It sounds really good there. Another spot ive seen people do lately, is just above the pillars in the headliner facing down and towards the seats. Might be a little too much having it up that high though. Give it a try in a couple of places before actually putting them in a spot.

Ok, I'll see where I can put them...the amp I will be using is the MTX4202...it's rated 50x2 @12.5v and 85x2 @14.4v...but factory test sheet says that it runs at 73x2 @12.5v...so would there possibly be any problems if I ran about 100 watts rms? they're rate for 2-50 rms and 200 peak

Sorry it took so frikin' long!...I just haven't had time to put them in but I finally got around yesterday to putting them in...they fit perfectly in the stock location and they sound AWESOME! I put my tweeters in the pillars by the windshield, the crossovers in the glove box, and the amp under the seat...I love the set up...and I never knew that a new set of speakers could make such a HUGEEEEEEEEEE difference in the quality of your stereo...GOOD LUCK!
