 Subject: battery temp sensor

My engine indicator light is on, the fault code is p1492. I guess this means the "battery temperature sensor" has wrong voltage. Has anyone experienced this or replaced this sensor?

the battery temp sensor is located under the batery and the pcm sends 5 volts to it and is grounded from the sensor return line if you come up with any other probs email me.

its used to tell the computer how many volts to regulate to the battery. Sense the regulator is apart of the computer, the computer senses the temperature of the battery to determine the amount of charging it recieves.

I just moved my battery to the back of my truck and then ripped out that frame that it sat on b/c I put in a KB SC and needed room for the intake. The battery sensor was under it but now i just stuck it in the fender. Could this be why my truck is hard to start now, is it not getting charged enough?? Should I just extend the sensor back to the battery??

you could just loop in a resistor so that the computer is always reading one temp and you are always getting a normal charge. Bernd had told me what resistor to use but i have forgotten which one it is.

I have a 2003 6cyl dakota and the Check gauges light comes on and then the alternator gauge dies but everything else works until I assume the battery dies (I just put in a new battery) the mechanic says the codes indicate it could be the computer , i just ordered a new one. but I wonder if its the battery sensor How can I just bypass it I think its worthless and a pain

Yea, go ahead and bypass it you fool. The person that designed the charging system is a lot smarter than you.

Yes but I need to know how to bypass it. I agree the person who designed it was probably a lot dumber than I am but he probably was encougraged by executives who wanted a way to sell more worthless parts!!! Im not even sure where I would find one (other than the dealer) which will never happen not at 200% markup!!
some one said a resistor but how many ohms ? or is there an easier way ?

I just changed the ecm and it took care of my check engine light but after 1 mile the check gauge light came on and the alternator indicator went to 0 so I turned the key on off on off on off on and got code P1682 anyone know what it means?

P1682 Charging System Voltage Too Low
Sounds like the voltage regulator just took a dump. It's built into the PCM.
